I was told this today by a dealer and wondered whether it's something that happens often in dealer networks (not just McLaren)?

Apparently, due to the current economic situation, the whole McLaren group of garages have just been told they can't take on any additional cars and can only replace what they've sold. I would've thought as franchises they'd have more control over what they can do than that. Why would they mandate this as surely the risk is on the individual garage and not the McLaren brand as a whole?

It was someone on sales - I won't say which branch. Why would they make that up?

Perfectly normal for dealers in the winter. What are they going to do with 5 720's in December/January?

I'm an indie doing Lotus stuff and often pick stuff up in winter that the mains have not been able to take. for me its a decent punt to just wait 8 weeks for the market to wake up but the bigger groups just get orders from on high they need to nurse their cashflow through the winter months.

I would be surprised if they would buy anything outright in Summer either TBH. There will be no shortage of used maccas and the main dealers are the ones best placed to do SOR. Mclarens are far from the easiest cars to get out of. took me a phone call to shift my old GT3RS and a week to private sell my old 458. The 600 would be a different matter!

I had a main dealer tell me a month ago, they werent interested in sor as had plenty of their own stock coming through, which looks to be the case watching their website and by all accounts someone who i know who works very closely with them was told they are not buying anything unless they absoultely nick it, so be prepared for some low ball part ex offers.

I very very much doubt that they would prioritise having a load of cash in their own stock over SOR. Don't forget a lot of these dealers will not like the perceived loss of face over being quiet. Motor trade people are all ego. Me personally I tell it like it is. It's dead at the moment. I'm not taking much of either way the moment just having a bit of a rest it's been a crazy couple of years.

I would imagine they are just moored out with cars wherever they have come from. I'm in the same position theres little point having even SOR stuff in right at the moment its just more metal in the way hopefully come February time we'll all be winding up again.
