It's not really about the views though, why pay $500k for what is essentially scrap? There are very few reusable parts on it and the entire shell is next to worthless.

It's commonly thought that a Cat D car is worth around 50% to 67% of a clean history vehicle. He's just paid 25% for a Cat A!
It's 100% about the views as that's his entire business. Unlike the rest of us he doesn't need to resell this ever as it's going to pay for itself with the revenue generated and then some I'd say. Once complete, if he does sell it whatever he gets for it will just be more profit.

Let's be honest, no one apart from someone like Tavarsih was going to buy this originally and do anything with it. From memory, it had failed to sell once already before he bought it. If you bought it and rebuilt it to stock, you probably wouldn't have been able to register it in most states due to the destruction title and you'd then struggle to ever sell it again for the same reason. You couldn't have parted it out due to the condition of the parts as we've now seen from Freddy taking it apart. So it was stuck in no mans land which was a real shame.

End of the day he's putting to good use what was probably destined for the scrap yard or to just sit and rot somewhere. I don't think taking out the hybrid parts make it any more or less a P1 at all. He's doing something with it that no one has done before and that should be applauded. If he wants to down the line, I'm sure he'll be able to install a newer and better hybrid system. in fact I imagine that'll come at some point once the build is done to get more content from his investment.

There is also the point that if he were ever to sell it, this is a McLaren P1 - not a Ford Taurus.

Regardless of what the American title says, I'm sure there would be interest from abroad and nothing to stop the car from being registered and driven in whatever country it would (theoretically) be exported to.

It's hard to calculate how much money a youtuber makes from videos. A quick google turns up a wide range of sources, mostly because there are a variety of factors. You get a few US cents per ad view, with the total varying based on demographics, eg views in the US pay more, as do views for videos aimed at adults. The length of the video also affects how many ads it contains, and thus revenue.

Estimates for this kind of content seem to hover around $5000 to $15000 per million views, although I have seen estimates up to $30000 per million. Tavaresh has already clocked up 30 million views for his P1 series, which means he has likely earned somewhere from $150000 to $450000 from youtube, probably towards the higher end of that considering adult focused US-centric content.

But that's not the full story. Firstly, he's not done, he's still making these videos and they are still clocking up an average of 2.5 million views each, so most likely $30000 per video. Secondly the old videos are still adding more views, as people are coming to the series and going back to watch from the start. Thirdly he doesn't just make ad revenue, he has direct sponsorship from companies he promotes in the video, depending on the deal this can easily be as much as the youtube revenue again. And finally, a big series like this will drive not just views, but subscribers; and subscribers are the holy grail for youtubers. Subscribers come back to watch all your other videos, driving yet more ad revenue and helping you land yet more lucrative sponsorship deals.

So yes, it is about the views.

In a recent podcast, Matt Farah shared some monetisation figures from his videos. For a car review he gets less than $8k per million views, and his rate for direct advertising was about double that.

I suspect he financed it all along, made no sense Mat buying a US example in the first place.

There was definitely a deal struck from the beginning, Matt did all the work in Tavarish's workshop and Tavarish's crew did a lot of the work even on camera.

Spending a lot of time in the UK lately and hanging around with lots of car you tubers based here, he may be deciding to take a back seat and financing these guys builds instead. They all seem to share around the same sponsors as well these days.

Only seen part 11 so far but I love the fact he's directly addressed the criticism. I fully agree with him and his approach and I value the fact he's been really upfront with it. Seeing the thumbnail for 12 with the car in it's SEMA form has just made me download it to watch on the way home. He's putting some serious effort into making this an absolute beast.

That's a bit unnecessary, not to mention irrelevant.

Maybe he's just been too busy appearing on everyone else's youtube channels to do anything on his own.
