I've been lurking a while now and there have been a lot of interesting posts recently around 720s prices and I think I'm ready to to go for it. I'd appreciate any feedback on the cars below. Any feedback appreciated

Saw some positive posts about the dealership which is good. What I like about this car is 1 own and low mileage - although appears to be low spec

I like the look of the Azores car at Scott Hardy nice colour and wheel combo, as I’ve mentioned elsewhere I bought from them last year and they were excellent to deal with. Only caveat with that one is it’s a 2017 car so one of the early examples which were fairly troublesome if you believe all you read. Also the low mileage might well be a bit of a turn off in this case as that’s incredibly low for a 6 yo car so either the gremlins haven’t been fully sorted or the car spent a lot of time in the shop and not being driven…Pure speculation of course ! Happy hunting in any case .

I saw this one but discounted it due high mileage, interesting that other comments suggest low mileage may be more troublesome, is 22k not an issue for these cars?

My 600 had 20k on it when I bought last Feb…up to 24500 now and it hasn’t missed a beat. Think these cars are generally better when used having them sitting around for long periods unused is sub optimal imo.

They are fabulous cars for the money.

Make sure you buy one with a sports exhaust.

But do beware that they are not selling well at present - use the auto trader price checker app and you’ll see many have been for sale for quite some time and have seen drops of £30,000 plus on the asking price.

56K on a 12c on AT, plenty of other examples with 40 plus on them,, they like to be used !!

There is a lot of chatter surrounding 720s prices however most is just that, noise !

There are some lower priced ones out there as there are with Porsche’s, Lambo’s and Ferrari’s.

However the well specced and cars with good provenance and from reputables have only dropped in price in line with the market’s

A lot to do with increased financing etc but with finance likely to be getting cheaper then prices may well be close to the bottom for the moment.

2017 and some late registered 2018 cars have been troublesome as been stated, software updates are not possible to bring them up to the latest spec so, be aware and might be worth looking into past history at the dealer that supplied/serviced the car to see if they’ve been seen by them a lot for warranty work.
Definitely get a PPI on any car unless main dealer and look at the warranty offered by independent garages as they may not cover some issues which can be expensive to repair.

I recently bought a 720 and rightly or wrongly decided it had to be 2019 or later.

Also no low mileage garage queens, it’s to have been used regularly. I did look at one 2018 car because I loved the colour, but it had buckets and my bones are too big.

I saw it on the day it arrived and it was sold within a fortnight, which isn’t bad at this time of year.

I'd rather have a 2019 car on 22k than an older (red badge) car on a lower mileage, in terms of maintenance concerns. As long as the service history stands up and the car's in A1 condition cosmetically, that is.


Incidentally of your initial three cars only the middle one has the extended gearshift paddles, I think (?). I'm not sure how exactly they compare, but on my 570 I do appreciate the longer paddles when on a B-road blat, it just makes it easier to grab a gear with some lock on.

thanks everyone, essentially we are saying the following
- aim for a 2019+ car rather than earlier
- 20k+ miles really isn't an issue
- check full service history
- check dealership history

The last one on your list has been for sale since April 23, so either the tan interior is putting loads of people off or its not all that in the flesh.

As others have said, pending on your local dealer they should be able to give you the warranty history of the car if you have the plate, you will soon see if its been in and out of the dealer.

Ive been here a while now and seen many mentions of red badge 720s, but nothing really concrete, is it really a thing from ownership?

Cars retailed by non-franchised dealers (not SOR) cannot come with McLaren warranty, McL invalidate any remaining when it enters the trade.

If I were you I'd look at the car, then if good get it sent to V Engineering for a PPI, then if that's good go from there without a warranty. The dealer is legally obliged to stand behind the car for the first six months under CRA anyway.


If you feel you need a McWarranty to start your McLaren ownership with, then you probably want to be looking at franchised dealers mainly, plus potentially private sellers with a warranty currently on the car.

Personally wouldn’t touch it unless it had either an extended McLaren Warranty or one from Thorney, any reputable Dealer should be offering one of these for such a car..

Thanks Sam that's a big help and not far from the seller so I could easily organise transport

can you get it into Mclaren for a check and see if they'll put a warranty on it?

I would definitely want the car checked by McLaren, normally a few hundred quid, to see if it they will warranty the car without needing to spend tens of thousands.

I personally wouldn't run a McLaren without dealer warranty. I know a few people self warranty their cars but they're mostly LT's which *touch wood* seem to be quite reliable on the whole.

McLaren PPI and 12 months warranty on a 0-5 year old Super Sport car is £4333, worth every penny in my book ,,
