Anyone know why this 12C went for such a low price?

I know the economy isn't brilliant at the moment and this 12C needs a good service but the price seems a bargain.

IIRC there was some defered maintenance noted on the paperwork and the seller wouldn't comment as to if it had been rectified or not. Think it was possibly a gearbox leak and other bits and bobs.
The other element relates to the spec, think it lacked much in the way of carbon.

I see. So a there maybe more issues / big bills. Still seems an absolute bargain at that price.

CC are trade prices not retail and are used to offload chequed history cars so no reflection on private sale prices really

Would have cost the buyer £50382, which on the surface seems cheap. But...

It's not just due a service, it's a year overdue, which means someone skipped a service and is now selling it rather than carrying out the service that it needs. It has only covered 670 miles since that service 21 months ago, which is actually a pretty bad thing as anyone in the know will tell you a McLaren that doesn't get used will often develop problems.

So this is a 12C that looks like it may have been stored largely unused for getting-on 2 years and has not seen a mechanic in that time. You'll have no comeback at all, and no buyer protection of any kind if the upcoming service flags some expensive issues. When you can get one in good condition from an independent dealer for about 60 grand then 50 grand for this seems about right given the risks involved. It's a reasonably good price, but I wouldn't class it as a bargain.

I couldn't understand while the car was running on cc the seller never answered any potential buyers questions makes one wonder if the car has things to hide.I think at the price of just over 52k with fees if you had to chuck 4 to 6k at the car it's still a decent buy.Keeping an eye on autotrader a lot of the same cars have been for sale for months definitely sign of the times so surely there are deals to be had on the 2nd hand market .There's been a lovely 650s couple for sale was low 80s 12 months ago then surprisingly went up to 87k now there asking for 78k.

There have been a few threads on the topic of 12C and 650S prices recently (I think I might have started one too!).

Loads of cars have been advertised for a long time. That doesn’t mean that none are selling, but the 12C list I have on AT hasn’t changed much over the last 6 months other than the prices gradually reducing.

Personally, even though they are incredible cars, I think those hanging around must be overpriced (otherwise they would have sold), and maybe people who do want to sell don’t want to take a hit on depreciation (who would). Maybe people will start to buy again in spring, but I think the spring bounce is a bit of a myth, imho…

If the price is right, the thing (what ever it is) will sell, if it’s not, it won’t.

Couldn't agree more there's a big difference between what someone thinks a car is worth and what someone is willing to pay for it

Not exclusively. I bought a 720 on CC - one owner, average miles, FDSH including recent service, 20 months McL extended warranty remaining - at a very good (at the time) private auction sale price.

There was a 650S highlighted on here as a bargain in 2023 at £80k. It doesn't appear to have budged (giveaway is always photos taken in summer).

Likewise some of the 12Cs. They can't all be dogs and at least two of the cheapest ones appear to have a very comprehensive history.

But despite that if you bought at £70k two years ago the depreciation has really been minimal compared to what you would have lost on some other supercars.

They're getting to the level where they could make excellent project cars. There's folk out there with Android replacements for the dreadful early Iris; both OEM and aftermarket carbon is readily available, and I believe they'll take later seats if the existing ones are tired. REP, V and Thorney can all deal with the mechanicals. Unless the thing is actually broken, you could do it as a rolling restoration and take your time.

Staggering to think you can get something with 80% of the performance of my 750 for 15% of the price.

It's also very tempting to pick up any of these "discount" McLarens as a track car. No need to worry about the absurd warranty conditions if you track it, all the performance you can eat, and who cares if it's a little ragged around the edges as long as the mechanicals work?

If any of the unloved 720s Luxury coupes out there get below 100k, I will no longer be able to resist. When I tracked mine it was as fast as my 3RS despite being on road tyres and being driven considerably more conservatively. Buy one, replace the seats with race items (not OEM) and add a harness bar, replace the brakes with STs, swap in the 765 accumulators, fit Cup 2 Rs or Trofeo Rs and off you go. If I'm smart, I think I could come out with change from my 3RS even after the upgrades. It will probably cost more to run than the Porsche, and be more fragile, but they are bonkers where the Porsche is precise and surgical. And bonkers is more fun if you're not actually racing.

Will you start a thread on it? I thinks it’s cracking value.
