Who is everyone using for track cover ?

Im insured with Admiral so needing a 3rd party cover for a trackday I have booked with Mclaren Glasgow next month.

In the past I've used Moris for my other cars , but they no longer cover Mclarens due to risk/high payout costs.

It's obscenely expensive tbh so I just self insure these days and drive with plenty of margin for error.

https://www.insuremytrackday.com/ have offered cover (going to Bedford next month), albeit with a four-figure excess. Not found anywhere else yet.

Morris, Reis, Manning but it wont be cheap, i insured a couple of days the year before last as my road policy had lapsed with trackday cover, it was the best part of £800, however one was Goodwood which there is quite a premium for as not much run off.

Unfortunately insurers have pulled the plug on McLarens. It seems when they go off on a circuit it is £100k+ and there is just not enough premium for the insurers to justify continuing - so drive carefully!!

We’re revising our product offering to provide suitable cover for track days, so currently do not offer this insurance. Check back here for updates soon.
Manning's website appears to offer road insurance with trackday cover included, however I can't see any mention of standalone trackday cover.

My inference is that the widely-reported rise in road insurance premiums reflects largely difficulties in getting cars repaired in a timely manner post-covid, and that these difficulties have transposed to the niche world of track insurance, leading to many companies withdrawing from the market.

I remember speaking to Classicline last yr for road cover on my 600LT (on its own), they were competitive price wise and said that they would cover trackdays at every track in UK and Spa for about £50 a day on top. Nurburgring Nordschleife excluded tho which was a shame but seemed like a great deal if you do most of your tracking at UK tracks. It was gonna cost me quite a bit extra at Admiral to cover my other cars as I was losing on the multicar discount so I didnt switch the LT but might be worth speaking to them.

Manning used to do a road policy with track cover included (my first year with the 570 i was with them), but as far as im aware, they stopped the combined policy in 22 as they had some high value claims and the underwriter pulled the pin and they were only doing individual cover, that might have changed again.

As RS says, Im currently with Classicline (most competitve anyway) with my road policy and track days are an additional £50 a pop, but i dont think they do indivdual day policies.

I'm with Admiral but self insure for trackdays now as well, Classicline did a road and track day quote last year, but my points situation was not ideal then.

Of the forty odd attendees at a wet Silverstone late Feb a show of hands for insurance netted only two at the morning briefing, the management highlighted that fact which I thought was good for the room to know.

I just got a quote from insuremytrackday.com of £950 with a £10k excess. Not actually far from previous quotes.

Is that for one day? I paid just over £1000 with Classicline to include road policy.

Self-insure per above comments, but also watch out for any event at an airfield. I was at Dunsfold and my insurer was clear that by simply driving on to an airfield property for an event my insurance cover was immediately void.

Im confident in my driving at 7/10ths and self insuring, but its not me that worries me, i just couldnt take that risk on a £100,000k car.

You won’t get third party cover for a trackday - it’s normally at the individual owners own risk. Obviously you can get cover for your own car but it won’t give third party cover.

I doff my cap at anyone that tracks their Mac, but i do think of them as bonkers.

For myself, even a slight misjudgement and a visit into gravel would most likely involve an opening gambit bill starting with the £15k+vat front carbon spoiler assuming there would be one available to buy.

Years ago I took my very healthy F355 fiorano pack car on the track and after a bit of sprited driving, it demonstrated a 007 DB5 smokescreen enhancement I didn't even know had been optioned.

I now only go on track events when I'm invited and I am driving someone else's car that I don't have to pay for if it and/or other stuff gets bent.

Fair play to yuz that do tho...clap
