i'm also looking at 600LT spiders also so this thread saves me some hassle.

ive got the choice down to Gt4 RS and the 600LT.... i know the cars are in different performance brackets but the price is pretty similar and the basically new gt4 rs gives more confidence on the reliability side of things.

i REALLY like this car, this spec would be amazing with the exterior carbon packs https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202401316...

is their any buying guides for the spider? or least things i should be looking out for on these?
I can't see a modern porsche being more relable. GT4RS is pretty epic though. However its just another modern porsche.

I have had thoughts on the GT4 RS when the 600 goes but having seen one in the flesh for the first time recently they a re bit bloody ugly much like the post 991 Era 911 they just look ghastly. The other thing I would need to verify is how the stupid engine/gearbox combo works in the Cayman it was a truly awful combination in the 991RS I had assuming it's a similar setup. The normal GT4 to me on paper seems like the better car unless you are just wanting to set lap times at Donnington.

I didn’t see the car at Leeds when mine was in for a service last month but agree it does look well, would certainly look even better with a few external exposed carbon packs,, I’d consider a p/x on my Coupe for it but the problem being I’d probably need £20K to change even though mine is worth about the same, bit like throwing money away just to have the back window down and some wind in your hair,, hmmmmmm,,,,
if i HAD a 600LT theirs no way id jump into this for 20k additional, thats madness... But this is a pretty nice spec for me its just missing the carbon packs which to me is a very desirable option but the MSO ludos paint is awesome! I don't want one too lairy but would like an mso car for desirability reasons.

I wouldn’t get to hung up on paint being an MSO colour, mines Elite Vega Blue,, doesn’t mean anything at the end of the day, paint is paint,, if you like the colour, like the spec and all the basics check out then you’ll know which car is for you ,, ( just bear in mind resale or you’ could be stuck with it ) laugh

I’ve a 600 Spider and sometimes I drive it with back window up (v rarely!)…its hard to describe how much more noise you experience with just the back window down, you can hear every nuance of the engine and exhausts I really think it adds another level to the experience. Of course £20k is alot to cough up if you have a perfectly good coupe but personally I’m glad I have the Spider.

The GT4 RS is the head choice - i find it cool looking vehicle but i agree, theirs definitely something almost abit tacky if you really look at it in detail. In my opinion the longer warranty and general higher quality of build / fit and finish is a benefit, also that engine config shoehorned into a cayman is imo extremely special and i truly believe they will be collectors items, does this bit matter to me? not really as i keep the cars for the long-term but it would be nice for it to not tank in value.

the 600LT spider is a heart choice, its one of my fave cars and simply cant ignore it when the numbers match so closely, i haven't driven a 600 but i would imagine its in a whole other league but the quality issues do concern me, i hear of paintwork issues also on my searches. Luckily, i am in the trade so i'm able to deal with issues that arise in house or at least within my contact list.

It’s funny how something you might not think much about makes such a big difference! I only ever have the window up on mine when I’m on the motorway and the car definitely seems more docile.

The cars noisy enough for me tbh in coupe format, if I want more noise I can go out on my bike which feels like your actually sat inside the engine not just closer to the exhausts, I suppose I could of bought a 600 spider for £4K -£5K less than what I paid for the coupe last year but didn’t really fancy one at the time, it’s just the cost to change now with the silly trade prices offered,, sell private and buy back in I suppose, bit of an arse on though,,

Not to confuse anyone,, you’d be faced with the same financial issue if you wanted to go spider -coupe, it’s the trade in values no matter what you have that make this painful,,

I've been on tour in Europe with friends in 600 LT Spider and Cayman GT4 RS. The guy in the LT was utterly effusive, had a fab time. The guy in the GT4 RS had to buy ear defenders similar to the ones I wear on my motorbikes as the noise in the cabin became unbearable after several hours driving. Can't see the appeal of that personally, engine noise should be a source of joy and not something to merely be endured IMO.

I'd go 600 LT all day long and I love my Porsches!

This!
I have had a Porsche Carrera, Spyder and GT3, all three were awesome.
Also had a 458 which was better again.

Now have a 600 LT Spider and I have to say it is just so amazing, it is like the perfect car as it does everything so well. I daily it, I've taken it on road trips, ferries overseas etc.

It is practical enough to get a couple of suit cases in and several large soft bags.
It has three sound modes, windows up basically like a coupe, back window down which funnels the exhaust nice right behind your head and does sound truly intoxicating and then roof down which in a McLaren, well its incredible, easily best convertible I have ever owned as its all positives, there is zero negative to going convertible with a McLaren with the carbon tub.

Then add the fact it has been reliable, my Porsches and Ferrari were not, it can also do close to 40mpg on a run so great when covering long distances with motorways involved, it handles beautifully on the road and though it is silly fast it is still fun at legal speeds, due to sports chassis, hydraulic steering and a little under tyred for the power which makes driving it involving and fun.

Then on track, wow, it blows my GT3 and 458 away, absolute weapon of a car on a circuit.

Only weak points for me are, factory brake pads wear very fast and can kill disc, replace with Pagid RSC1 which last 2-3x longer, cost the same.
If you have some crazy undulating roads with big dips you might bottom out, but againu upsizing front tyre from 225 to a 235 can give front-end a 2-3mm height increase which helps.

On track most of us run 235/305 AR1 tyres, at which point car is no longer under-tyred and grip is immense, I am not the best driver and I also don't push my cars very hard but I've done a 1:12/13 around Donington National, by comparison my 458 was around 1:17 on PS4S and my GT3 around 1:16 on Cup 2, so driver same but the extra performance, grip and confidence in the 600 LT means I am so comfortable at carrying extra pace.

The extended warranty like Porsche is also generally very good, mine covered at last service a new damper and bushes, something my Ferrari warranty would not cover, it also cost less than Ferrari at £4670 for two years.

So far I love my 600 LT Spider, it seems to be a car that can truly do the role of daily driver, long weekends away or weeks in Europe and a track day car all roled into one.

I am sure in a few years the 600 LT Spider will be regarded as one of the LT's to have for how it can mix a fun drive on the road at legal ISH speeds, looks incredible with top mount exhaust, also is the best sounding McLaren (to the driver) due to exhaust placement and is just so capable and useable.

Chris Harris himself said he'd take one a 600 LT over boy a 488 Pista and a Lamborghini Performante, that was without taking price into the equation, so no way is a 488 Pista worth double, so either was is vastly over priced or one is extremely under-valued.

Get a 600, bloody supercar bargain!

McLaren marketing dept owes you a huge debt, sounds like you're enjoying your car to the fullest! I drove the Artura this weekend and as nice as it was, it wasn't a patch on the 600LT for drama

Thanks.

The salesman did tell me the car was taken by them to be serviced at the local McLaren dealer to leave the possibility of a warranty open. The radio silence makes me wonder if the response from McLaren was, yes we you can pay for a warranty but the car will need £X spent on it (disks as mentioned above perhaps?) beforehand and rather than come back and say that, they've made the decision to say nothing and wait for someone who's less bothered by a McLaren warranty or wouldn't want an inspection. Either way, it seems an odd way to sell an expensive car IMHO

I see Brookspeed have sold theirs, did you succumb?

No.

Not making a big thing of it but as soon as the sales folk went a bit quiet and uncommunicative when it came to answering some basic questions then it wasn’t the place for me. Might have been different if I was more local where you can get a feel for a place but at a big distance you need a wee bit of cooperation. Still a nice car tho.

+1 absolutely ! It is a fabulous feature and you can do it even if it's raining. Then, when you drop the top, the drama / theatre factor is ramped up even further :-) Sooooo glad I got a Spider.

Pagids will kill your discs quicker than oem pads as they harder. I had a chat with Thorney and he recommends keeping the oem pads but changing well before they are low.
