So who's getting an i3?
Discussion
Got my i3 finally last week! Very impressed with the way it drives around town, and actually feels a bit more composed on the motorway.
So far averaging 4.2m/kWh, around town I was averaging 4.9m/kWh which is roughly 210mpg equivalent? Which doesn't seem too bad.
Best max range I've seen predicted so far is 190 miles. Though I haven't had a day yet that's been over 10C outside.

Ok. so I'm currently considering the i3 (second hand) for my commute 55m each way 110 miles. 25k miles / year total. Mostly motorway then b roads. Takes about 1hr 5 in my e class
What's the range likely to be if sat at 50 / 60 / 70 / 80
Can it cruise at 70/80?
Is it noisy?
Charger at work so hoping I can
go
charge
Return
go
charge etc....
Been told 150m for 60Ah and 180 for 90Ah.
Also told 80000 mile warranty on battery. But only 1 year approved used. They can't say what it costs to extend warranty.
Any one with some costs.
Do I need a fast charge at home or will a 13a plug "do". Happy to get one.
How long to charge on a 13a supply?
Cheers
G

I have the 94Ah
130 ish range falling to 105 when it is really cold
Motorway speeds are no problem, but nudge the range down a bit
Get a proper charger at home (32A if poss).
Set car to condition for your departure time at each end and charge at work too. You will get into a nice warm / cool car and you will never have range anxiety doing that with 55 each way
Charging from 50 - 60% (which you will be there or thereabouts at after 55 miles) will be a couple of hours or so on a 32A

I have a rex and had a similar commute before. Unless you can guarantee you can charge at work, you need the rex.
Rex can be turned on manually as long as battery is less than 75%, and turns on automatically when down to 6 miles. Best thing is to use it on route if necessary, until you have enough electric range to finish journey.
You do have to learn to trust the electric range, but it is pretty accurate.

a rex will kill that commute, no problem.
as stated, the rex is available once the car reaches 75% charge, but in reality, you'll never use a drop of petrol in that usage pattern. a household plug will be just fine, but it'll take 8 hours for a full charge (not that it'll ever be empty as you'll top it up all the time, so less in reality)
the worst case scenario is cold winter weather which will reduce range to about 90 for a 94ah and 'proper' motorway speeds will reduce it further, a 60mph crawl won't affect it though, 80+ chews range though.
it'll be the perfect tool for the job - be aware that bik rates are going up though if it's going to be a company car

If you have an i3 or are thinking of getting one, oodles of good info here - https://www.facebook.com/groups/bmwi3uk/
Hello all i3 owners.
It appears that people must love their i3 - as looking on auto trader there are only 77 listed in the entry country (non Rex).
Is there a clever way of telling what battery size the cars advertised are? hardly any say if they are 64 or 94 or 120 and I actually don't know if I trust the places selling them to actually know.
I think the 94Ah is what we are looking for, assuming there are no real difference between the three other than the battery size?

Yes - use https://tesla-info.com/BMW/inventory.htmlIt appears that people must love their i3 - as looking on auto trader there are only 77 listed in the entry country (non Rex).

Although it is reliant up to a point in what the sellers say. But then I would say that as its my website
BMW inventory is also on there and if you're looking for a more recent car then they've recently added lots
Not much difference other than range although the options have changed a little and early niggles worked out. You probably want to look out for DC charging as the earlier cars had it as an option. For me the 94 REX as either a i3 or i3s is the one I'd go for, but then thats really only because I think the REX might come in handy, in reality the BEV would probably be fine. The 120 is a bit too new, the 60 too short on range.
The 2016 and early 2017 before the VED change are quite desireable although some later cars squeeze under the 40k luxury car threshold. But part of the warranty is also dropping off those cars unless you buy from BMW
I’ve just traded my 94rex after 2yrs and 41k miles for a i3s rex with delivery miles. My i3 was bought new and used for my 110m commute to London.
Used on the m1 and nth circular managed the distance easily on electric, only needed to use the Rex for 10-15m in the depths of winter. Any temperature over 10 degrees and electric is fine. Speed varying between 65-75 and driven in comfort mode.
