Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but Top Gear this Sunday will hopefully be a good watch if they take it seriously:

Jeremy Clarkson tests the new BMW M4 at the track before switching to another BMW, the space-age, hybrid-powered i8, for a revealing trip up the A1 to Whitby. When he gets there, and fuelled by a portion of fish and chips, Clarkson must decide which of the two he would rather take for the drive home.
That should be interesting..... I hope it is the i8.....hehe I haven't even sat in one never mind driven one yet and I'm picking mine up in three weeks time.....driving
Trailer for Sunday's TG, in case anyone's not seen it yet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0x7gbfEfIi8&fe...

Appears that the premiums are gone, (couple of used ones advertised at <£100k) anyone know what the current waiting list is , last time I asked (in Jan), I was told I could have one for Sept 1st.

I assume there is a few cancelled orders ???

Two out of three in autotrader (£100k or sub) make no mention of VAT
The third states VAT qualifying which normally means VAT can be claimed back (subjects to being purchased by a suitable VAT registered business) however in this case it wouldn't surprise me if is a tricksy way of saying plus VAT

2 are private ads for 5000 mile cars, the other says £99950 + VAT. It's not a limited edition, it's bound to depreciate - can't see the problem meself.

I wonder what effect the price rise will have on the order book

It seems a bit cheeky of BMW to put the price up 3 % when the Euro has devalued by about 10 % recently

Probably would have been if he hadn't changed his mind once he got back to the studio. Low 30mpg didn't sound good

It was a similar conclusion to the one I came to after borrowing one for 24 hours, it's hugely impressive, a fantastic bit of nine ring and technology, but just didn't quite do it for me.

It offers the same performance as my ex aston v12v, it is more accessible, way more comfortable feels more special. I did 300 miles over the weekend. Refilled after 300 miles (3/4 of a tank). 35 liters cost 40 quids. Amazing. Could not care less if far from the claims, still 3-4x more economical than the aston when driven hard.
The real bonus is it won't empty your tank when sitting in traffic. It is virtually free motoring when used in town when other supercars go 8 mpg.

There will always be people with different tastes but following on from the type writer comparisons, it's like comparing a Swiss watch with the first generation of casios or a fine turntable with the first CD players. You feel there's not much more left to extract out of the Swiss watch or turntable in terms of timekeeping or sound quality, but plenty to develop on the new technology. And there lies the rub for me, the new technology will develop and relatively quickly. It's a shame already that the i8 wasn't unpinned by the tesla technology; now that would have been interesting hitting 60 in circa 3s, and every BMW dealership could have had a rapid charging point fitted to deal with range anxiety.

The i8 and V12V play to different parts of the brain. Both have their place.

Went to see mine last night, looks great! Not sure I can wait till the 1st.

The increase includes c£1600 of surround view IIRC.

Phew - glad you like it now you've finally sat in one! smile

It is quite an amazing car, isn't it? It carries off the whole Jekyll & Hyde thing superbly well, a refined & comfy cruiser one minute, a rapid hooning machine the next.

I joined the club last Sunday. Overall I'm impressed with everything, well almost, the electric range of 16 miles fully charged is only 60% of what the manual says but maybe it'll improve as its a shame I can't do a full return commute on electric :/ but the shove in 4th gear will never get boring I don't think.

I walked in to Park Lane to buy an i8 and came out with an i3 . Ridiculously cheap compared with i8 , REX has no range anxiety but I never use petrol for a 50 mile commute . I have an Aston for the looks etc but I do still love the i8 looks and it is a logical aston replacement as mentioned above.

If you swapped the i8 for a Tesla added an XTR660, Ducati 916 and a VW T4 Bus youd have my 100k garage. wink

Great pic as it shows the differnt sizes they all are. Ive got an i3 and think its too tall looking, and compared to that lotus confirms it, you could lower it at least a foot with some redesign work. I hadnt realised how wide the i8 is.

OH whoever said 30mpg isnt good. Well a few mates have sporty cars so I can quote, R8 20mpg, XKR 26mpg, modded Evo VI unknown but a full tank doesnt last 200 miles.

Besides who give a flying monkey about MPG on this type of car? Only people on the internet. The same people who think published 0-60 times are real. My i3 is yet unbeaten from the lights despite only having 8.0s offical time. Why, becuase peope in ICE cars dont want to look a knob revving to 4,000 rpm waiting for a light change and/or trying to get launch control activated in the menu. Me... I just stick the electric handbrake on, then stamp on the pedal on green and witness giggle inducing destruction... usually I'm 50m the other side of a junction/roundabout before anyone else has got to second gear. All done in relative silence apart from a quiet whine that sounds like the milennium falcons hyper drive kicking in. I have a theory that actulally theres no noise, and this is fake onise coming in from the speakers as its cool. wink

I did nearly get beat by a 335d once but I let him get ahead as it would have been a 25m race straight into the back of a traffic jam. I was using regen to slow down.
