Has anyone else had issues with booking one of these?

Called to arrange at the start of last week-gave all the details, selected dealer and was given date/time for pickup.

Advised that the dealer would contact to confirm the appointment.

Next evening, I recieved a call to ask whether I was still interested in test driving a Leaf? Person on the phone had no record of my appointment.

I asked for them to check and confirm that the booking was on the system. Recieved a call to advise it was not, and that the dealer would apparently be in touch to confirm directly via telephone within 24hrs.

Unsurprisingly, it has been 4 days since they were due to call.

What have been your experiences?

Where are you based?

I tried to book ours using the phone number advertised and had issues convincing the person that my house wiring was up to standard (2010 new build house!!)

Went to the local dealer who set the 7 day test up there and then, just needed to return the following day to collect car after it had been prep'ed.

Based outside Glasgow.

Date given was for early April.

They advised i'd need to charge at local points and could not charge at the house.

House charging via powerful 13 amp socket eg garage or kitchen

Booking seems a little chaotic - my dealer was given my details but not why I had contacted and it was only after I contacted them that we could set it up

Yeah sounds like my sockets wouldnt be suitable(unless they just need to be on a 13a circuit?)

Have contacted them via twitter and had an initial response-they asked for contact details so we'll see if anything occurs.

..Surely any socket is suitable? The socket should be able to provide 13A sustained - so no worse than plugging in a 3kW fan heater or tumble dryer?

Or is there something really blatant that I'm missing here?

I charged the one I had from a standard 13A 3 pin socket in the garage and in all honesty, the house is 200 years old and I reckon the electrics were fitted during build going from the state they're in. No dramas charging the car at all!

The 3-pin charger only actually draws 10 amps, it's deliberately downrated to avoid causing problems with home circuits.

Anyone telling you that you can't charge on a regular domestic socket either has some ulterior motive or is just not very well informed. You'll be fine.

The current draw is less than one of those old electric fires, or the halogen heaters people use.

Almost no houses have "13A circuits" either - you'll have a 32a ring main just for the downstairs, at least. Unless you house is truly decrepit and has never been rewired (in which case you likely won't have 3-pin sockets either :-))

There is also lots of deadly serious advice about not using an extension lead. In theory that is better placed, but a proper high quality lead from a reputable supplier (hint : it'll have a very thick inflexible cable) is likely to be reasonably safe too. Lots of people have used them.

There's the absolute health-and-safety special approach and then there is the real world one with sensible precautions.
