Realistic range for EV's

So getting more idea what the Leaf (24kWh, 2015 model) can do in winter.

City driving, rain, cold, traffic = 70-75 miles MAX on a 100% charge (In summer 85-90).

M-way driving, rain, cold, speeds >65mph = 55-60 miles MAX on 100% charge (In summer 75-80).

You have to be brave to use a 24kWh Leaf on long M-ways trips over the winter, especially if you want to 'keep up' with the traffic.

I am thinking of getting an electric car for the wife so will look at all the details and speak to some dealers in the coming weeks.One question for now,what happens if say you run out of electricity in a battery only car,can you tow it and will the RAC/AA get the car home.

I know Nissan provide 3 years worth of recovery on new cars. I think they set the limit to 4 recovers per year. In reality the car give you plenty of warning before it runs out, and with just a tiny bit of planning before you leave you should know if range is going to be an issue.

I've done 150 miles from Leicester to Cardiff with no issues, the lowers battery percentage it got to on that trip was just under 15%, and even than I had enough range to make it to the next charging point if needed.

Nissan say not to tow with the front wheels on the ground. flatbed or lift.
