There seems to be the Zoe, Leaf, i3 and Tesla and not much else (I know there are one of two other cars modded from IC versions) but when are the next electric cars being launched. Despite all the talk new models seemed to have stalled. Even Nissan isn't too bothered about replacing the Leaf which has been on sale of years now.

What we need is something fun, stylish and forward thinking - oh and affordable.

Apart from the i8, they all look very bland.

I wouldn't say that either the Leaf, i3 or ZOE are bland.

Aren't Tesla launching a cheaper family hatch type car soon?

I would say that the problem is with the still limited sales and monetary return on these types of cars, investing a shed load of money into newer versions probably isn't viable until sales of electric cars properly take off.

Nissan Leaf has just had a mid-life tweak with a 30kWh battery available for up to 155 miles. All-new version planned in 2017, 300 mile range being touted.

Pure electric Smart on the way.

Loads of plug-in hybrids among the mainstream manufacturers but not many pure electric cars yet.

ZOE has had a new motor too, taking the stated range to 149 miles from 130.

There's also the VW e-Up, e-Golf and Kia Soul EVs.

63 miles is our Zoe max, no way is 130 ever feasible

NEDC figures quoted, much the same as no one ever archives advertised MPG figures.

I managed 100 miles out of our previous demo ZOE which was running the older motor, I can easily get 70-80 miles out of our current one; still has the older motor, by driving carefully. I haven't tried going for 100 miles as it's put on charge daily at work.

Unforseen circumstances last Christmas dictated the 100 miles range; I ended up being off work unexpectedly and am unable to charge it at home.

Even the Manufacturers admit the max. range quoted is only possible in exact driving conditions.

There's a guide on the Nissan website to expected range in differing situations.

Even so you can adapt your style to extract more range than you think.

Getting my Leaf 30kw on the 22nd so will see what of real world range it can do then.

Will definitely look at the new Leaf when the 3 year lease is up on this one especially if the range is a genuine 200 miles +

The real world ZOE mileage figures are in the brochure, along with the NEDC figures; I've bettered the real world figures on the older motor.

I will be taking a close look at the Leaf 2 and Tesla Model 3.

What I really wish for though is a commuter/weekend car with 150-200 mile range, a couple of seats and a focus on driving pleasure, electric style. I want torque vectoring, aggressive regenerative braking, loads of power and traction - oh, and I don't want to pay more than £20-25k for it.

Got to agree with the above.

Maybe bland is the wrong word - just not exciting to me.

Sounds like manufacturers use the same way to calculate range as they do MPG!

I'd stick with Tesla, their charging network is fantastic.

The current AC/CCS/Chademo network in the UK is a shambles where you have a 50/50 chance if the charger will work / actually be there / be in use / or some dick in an ICE has parked in it.

With Tesla, they have 2-6 well marked bays which very very rarely have issues.

The uk priced for the Tesla model 3 is expected to be 25k, so i don't think we need to wait 30 years.

And by all accounts that Kia appears to be a pretty good machine too.

Indeed, watched a YT channel by name of alloam or something. A guy who lives in Aberdeen who has a Zoe and does videos about living with it. He attempted a Aberdeen-London-Aberdeen trip and it nearly didn't happen when, at his second charging stop, all the chargers weren't working.

They weren't working at his back up and I think the one they directed him to after that had tripped and the council couldn't find anyone to come un-trip it. He did make it though, but I would imagine if that happened to you early on in ownership, you'd be wary of going any further than down the road in it!

Jimbo.

As has already Ben said, the Leaf has just received a big battery upgrade. And it's selling rather well at the minute, so I suspect they see no need to change it too much, too soon.
