Best I don't dwell on that now I'm thinking!

Have now been informed my car has arrived in the U.K. smile

Fingers crossed it makes its way to the dealer promptly this week. I'd like it to arrive on the Monday if possible so it can be delivered to my home (off work that day). But I guess that depends also if they can collect my old car that day too...otherwise it'll have to wait until the Tuesday.

Either way roll on next week.

Oh and I'm in Spain currently (rubbing that one in) and I booked a hire car with Vanrell. I got excited when I saw they have the 330e on their rental list. Nearly rented it until I found the price - about £950....ouch!

Booked a Peugeot 208 instead lol

£950!! Ouch. You will hardly pay that in a year in tax lol

I know...nuts eh!

If I charge the car when it's parked at home I'll likely not even spend that much a year in fuel smile

...of course that's assuming I get into religiously charging it...shame the company doesn't incentivise the charging aspect...I'll be spending their money on fuel after all lol.

Quick question for those in the know on batteries....as I'm planning on driving my car for quite a few years to come, I'm wondering what are the chances or an upgraded battery pack being available to retrofit in 2-3 years time? I get to drive about 3/5 of my commute to work, charge for free and then the same home again. Would be ideal to be able to make it all the way here...

Weird air-con issue....

Not sure if it's the car or something I'm doing?

Very rarely switch air on on just open windows, living in north east England means I rarely get warm.

Every so often when I do instead of cool air, for a few seconds a blast of hot air comes out misting all the windows then a couple of seconds later the windows are clear again.

It's just tonight it came close to the point where I had to pull over before I hit something as my windows were that bad?

Me or the car?

Hmm. Sounds odd. I've never noticed a blast of hot air, and I certainly don't get misting to that extent. The only time I've noticed any misting is when air con is off, and it's only ever a small patch in the centre bottom of the screen, and it soon senses that and sorts it out without me having to do anything.

I too don't have air con on often (precondition, and the air coming out of the vents is normally still cold enough for enough of my ~20 minute commute that I don't need to turn it on again).

Have you got the climate set to auto? If you're manually setting where you want air to come out that could cause those kind of symptoms I guess. What temps do you have set on the climate control?

Was all set to opt of the company car scheme this year but have just had the list through and the 330e is on it.

I had an e90 m sport and loved it, went to my current A5 sb which is nice but always preferred the BMW strangely considering the lack of tech it had.

The M Sport is £4 out of my allowance so looks like a sport with a few options will be the way to go.

I've just joined the club yesterday (Alpine White M Sport with only folding seats added as at the top of my lease allowance!). Very impressed already over the 20 or so miles I've driven.

I have a quick question that I couldn't see had been discussed - are you using std 95 RON unleaded or Super/V Power?

States 95 RON on the filler and 91-98 range; any benefit found from higher octane in this car?

Shell V-Power and Tesco GreenEnergy99 (Premium) Fuels are better suited for Turbos than BP Ultimate.

Here is a link to another thread discussing 99RON fuels etc - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=83...

As you've not received an answer yet I'll take a stab at it but right now EV batteries are a complicated subject matter so it's difficult to be scientific about this as I don't claim to have all the facts.

So starting with battery density. Currently the size of these battery packs is such that they fill the current 330e boot floor plan almost entirely and BMW use a battery that has a density weight of roughly 100 Watt Hours/Kg. Your current batteries are 7.6KWh so we are talking roughly 76Kg in added weight for the current batteries. If it were possible to install larger batteries currently as a retro fit it would likely have to be third party rather than OEM due to how they'd change the vehicle from a physical perspective.

So moving on to charging. I suspect the charging circuitry used in the 330e is very similar if not the same as the 530e which uses 9.2KWh battery packs. We could reasonably assume a 20% improvement in range if retrofitted to the 330e - taking your 3/5 commute on electric to 4/5. To get another 20% improvement we would be looking at a battery pack of at least 10.7KWh. With current charging circuit in place that'd take your (assumed UK regular 230V 10A mains) charging from about 3.5 hours up to nearly 5 - not an issue if charging overnight. Rapid charging would increase from 2 hours to 2.8. Not a deal breaker perhaps.

On to battery cost. Currently BMW will be paying about £190-200 per KWh for Samsung batteries. That means your current battery pack is costing nigh on £1500. Not sure what the retail markup is but based purely on cost price, a 9.2KWh pack is going to be roughly £1800 and a 10.7KWh pack £2150. This is going to be no cheap upgrade!

On to warranty, your car comes with a 6 year BMW warranty which comes with a regular BMW servicing caveat. If you were to replace/ upgrade the batteries outside of BMW you'll have just lost your warranty- likely on every other portion of the EV hardware / circuitry too.

From a safety standpoint, unless these batteries are installed by a qualified electrian you're likely opening yourself up to a ton of risk as there's no way BMW will have made it a user friendly plug and pray upgrade. Add to that the increased fire risk from overheating if there has been no allowance for extra heat dissipation. Then of course comes your Insurance company... I think we all know what they'd do to you if you had to make an insurance claim and they'd discovered retro fitted batteries!

Light at the end of the tunnel is apparently in 2026 when BMW anticipate having cheaper, lighter but more dense battery packs available. At this point who knows - there may be a BMW upgrade option. Sadly though I suspect that will be left for the new G20 3 series hybrids frown

Yes but Shell Points aren't as useful as Clubcard points, and from the link it says that the Tesco fuel is pretty decent so win win.

Some slightly troubling news. According to our vehicle suppliers the BMW connected app has effectively been disabled due to security reasons. No other explanation currently forthcoming.

Can anyone confirm if this is indeed the case? I'm being told I won't be able to register and login until such time as BMW rectify whatever the security issues are frown

There goes scheduled charging and pre conditioning on day one of pick up frown
