Hello Everyone, first time poster here...

Currently in the process of choosing my next company car and the 330e is at the top of my shortlist.

I have read through most of the pages of this topic and there is some very good information but I have a few questions that I am hoping can be answered. I think that I understand the advantages and limitations of this particular car but then again I may have completely got it all wrong 😬

1) I don't commute everyday as I often work from home so I could potentially use electric only for a full week for driving to town/shopping/kids football etc. This car I think is perfect for this situation

2) when I do go into the office it is a 30 mile round trip of mostly B roads, a little dual carriageway and there can be heavy traffic depending on what time I need to be in the office. I will drive to the office on a full charge but don't have the facility to charge at work.

3) with work I am expected to be available to attend various sites/meetings anywhere in the country and these journeys tend to be either few and far between or on occasions I have done 1000+ miles in one week. The long journeys I do most tends to be approx 200 mile round trip down and back up the m6. So as you can see it's very difficult to calculate/estimate the amount of miles I will be doing week to week. I can claim the HMRC advised rates which are currently at 13p a mile for this car. I am worried about being out of pocket on these types of journeys and can't seem to get my head round how to actually work out what the minimum mpg I would need to achieve to break even.

So questions:

1) what type of mpg could I expect to see over 200 mile round trip with no charging facility at one end
2) same as above but with charging facility at both ends
3) is this a viable option for my type of usage?
4) how can I calculate fuel costs

I'm looking at this car because of the BIK saving but would also like to have clarity on the running costs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Based on a fuel price of 1.11, you'd need to return 39mpg actual to break even. Obviously any of the trip completed on EV would help reduce the fuel cost and increase your overall MPG. Not sure if that's possible, but there's enough info in the thread to make your mind up.

Your driving profile is virtually exactly as mine except I'll be doing more regular long distance driving. My car arrived today so have only done 10 all electric miles in it. Can report further in due course.

For everyone else, I can advise the following.

- I did not order the pro nav but it did come with a new style sat nav with tiles but this is not touchscreen.

- It did not come with folding rear seats.

- annoyingly i forgot to order lumbar support do going to buy a pillow on amazon shortly. Remember to check the spec of your car before buying!

I see you ordered an M Sport with sliding centre armrest & heated front seats. Why didn't you order the interior comfort pack which include these plus heated steering wheel and folding rear seats for a little more?

Folding rear seats come as standard now on the Sport albeit with higher list price.

I have to caveat the following with the fact that I don't do long trips generally. I have done a 200 mile round trip and achieved pretty close to 50mpg.

1) I reckon high 40s if you drive carefully.
2) Charging both ends should see you into the low 50s
3) I'd say so, yes. Look at it over your entire usage, not just the long trips. If you had a diesel that could give 60mpg on long trips, it might be doing high 20s on short trips, and ~45 on your commute. You need to look at what charging will cost you, and your overall average usage (which I know you said was difficult)

I've got a build slot of week 49 which is the 4th Dec. Does anyone think I'll take delivery before Christmas or is it likely to be after the new year?

Basically, total list price was circa £80 shy of £40,000 which is the threshold for the increased tax. Effectively, by adding heated steering wheel, (which I don't need/want) and folding seats as part of the comfort pack, costed me an extra £25 ish per month all because the list price went over £40k.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I’m finding it quite difficult to be honest with not having a set daily mileage. I need to do some proper calculations to see what my overall saving would be (BIK, fuel etc) compared to what I am paying now.

Also, there seems to be so many different people reporting different figures

So I have completed 3500 miles in my 330e over the past 2 months and for those asking about MPG I have shown my mileage tracker below. My normal daily commute is 16mile each way and I average 80ish each way so the weeks were I just commute I am getting an average of 57mpg based on a full charge and on longer journeys 40ish mpg which I’m fine with as I was only getting 40mpg in my diesel X3

I do small commutes in the city in traffic with the car giving me anything between 10-16 miles on a full charge ( about 70p full charge).
I have achieved just over 20 miles out of a charge with a no traffic 30-50mph run with a few island and light stops.
Even if I do say 8 miles and have about 50% battery getting home, I always charge it full taking about an hour, just over 2hrs empty. I have a installed charger unit. The trick is to always top it up even if it’s for 1/2 hr. it switches off when it’s full so no triple charging.
100 miles down mostly motorway on a full charge cruising at 70-75mph will get you in the low to mid 50’s mpg (add 70p for your charge at home), without any charge will give you mid to high 40’s because you lose that 10% or so on the way back because of no charge costing about 70p electric + £20 of fuel for 200 miles on about 50mpg average.
I’m guessing you could switch it into save mode last day 20 miles motorway with hopefully it recharging full for town driving when getting back off the motorway to home ( this might save a little).
Think of your journey to work of 30 miles being roughly getting there on battery (70p ish) and on the way back on fuel with it flickering in and out of battery charge being around 30mpg-35mpg, using just under half gallon fuel costing ( 70p + £2.50 = £3.20 ish).

Would you not just let your company buy and and pay the ~16% BIK and personal usage ~15% - especially if you're sub £45k?

BIK is a personal tax so your company would be breaking HMRC's rules if it payed the tax for an employee.

The Vehicle and Fuel BIK is explained in full here for a 330e M Sport with a P11D value of £37,765

I do a mix of either 16 mile round trips to local office (with charging point) or longer motorway trips of up to 250 miles round trip

I'm averaging over the 20,000 miles I have done so far 53.5 mpg

On the longer trips I have managed over 60mpg on some occasions but normally between 45 and 55mpg depending on charge point availability during the journeys

As for breaking even on 13p a mile you shouldn't have an issue and to be fair its covered all my personal miles to date
