Picked up a 330e m sport from the local dealer this afternoon for a couple of days, took it home and thought I’ll get it plugged in and charge it up for tomorrow’s trip...... only to find there isn’t a friggin charger with the car!!

I do a mix of either 16 mile round trips to local office (with charging point) or longer motorway trips of up to 250 miles round trip

I'm averaging over the 20,000 miles I have done so far 53.5 mpg

On the longer trips I have managed over 60mpg on some occasions but normally between 45 and 55mpg depending on charge point availability during the journeys

As for breaking even on 13p a mile you shouldn't have an issue and to be fair its covered all my personal miles to date

Ah that sounds promising. As I’m not home start I can’t actually claim the 15 miles to the local office and on any long journeys I am ‘supposed’ to subtract 15 miles from the total miles.

I’ve ordered a demo car but the earliest they can do is 22nd December and I need to make my choice before end of November so looks like I ain’t going to be test driving one which is annoying.

Think I’ll have one last look at the Car list tonight just in case I’ve missed any other good deals and then make a decision tomorrow.

What!?

I thought they gave you a 3 pin charging cable with the car and then whacked on the £160 for the type 2 charger to enable plugging into some of the slow & fast chargers dotted around.

Had the dealer just forgotten to leave it in the boot?

Re the 13p per mile long journey thing.

I get 15p per mile, and so far I think I am safe.

Trouble is it can be so dependant on your journey.

Eg if you do 200 mile motorway journey, and then finish up with 45mins sat in nose to tail queuing traffic you can certainly end up with mpg below 30's.

Its only happened to me once, but the car is bloody annoying that in if your charge is very low it will start recharging back up, then go back to battery, then recharge back up and repeat.

Travelling from Leeds to Bradford one day I averaged about 15 mpg. If only you could stop it automatically recharging, then you might at least get 30mpg in traffic.

However over all I have not fallen below 45mpg, and therefore covered on mileage rate.

Will have to see if this changes now winter is coming....

I know it seems bizarre they’d supply a demo without a charger. Looking at the MPG figures on the dash it doesn’t look like it’s ever been on charge!

Done a couple of hundred mile in it today and I’m pretty impressed by the drive. I’ve had a couple of 320d m sports previously and the 330e is so quiet and smooth compared. Bags of power. Spot on

Mine is currently 1100 with an estimation of week 51 smile long way away (due to lease scheduling) but seems real now
Should I really be excited it is now at 1200?

Thanks for the replies everyone!

I was almost ready to press the order button on the 330e but then a spanner has been thrown into the works! A colleague told me to have a look at the Lexus 300h executive. It’s workig out 30 quid a month extra in the first year for the Lexus but as it’s a 2.5 litre Petrol I can claim 26p a mile so would actually be making money on every business mile.

The research starts again!

Yeah why not.. let’s celebrate. Is week 51 the estimated date for delivery to dealer?

Yeah, it’s the fine balance of £ per trip vs BiK. Lot of our guys have the Lexus and are coming to the end of their lease period. I’d say more than half are looking to just get another one as they’re working out nicely. Some want to drop from the 19-21% BiK level to 9 so are looking at the 330e/530e/350e/Countryman Phev instead.

I’m fed up of giving too much money away in tax so have gone for a plug in hybrid and will just cut my mileage down if I think I’m losing out too much (which my man maths says I won’t but always good to have a back up plan).

I was told by BMW Genius delivery to dealer mid Oct, and have now been told w/c 4th Dec. Excuse was a rush of orders in September. Not sure how that can affect my delivery date considering it was ordered in June unless BMW prioritise certain orders and push others back to facilitate this.

There is no rhyme and reason to BMW build schedule movements. The below history is all through Genius Chat with the 7 digit order number from the dealer.

My own experience on my order placed early May was that on 23rd June it was at status 1200 "scheduled for production" for week 28 (9th July), with end of July delivery (week 31).

When I checked on 4th July it had gone back to status "1100 scheduled", production week 39 (24 Sept), expected at dealers 15 October i.e. a push out of 11 weeks!

I then had a go at the leasing company and wasn't sure whether it had an effect or not, but next day on 5th July the revised production week got pulled back into week 32 (6th August), delivery week 3rd September and it stayed there. In fact it managed to get to the dealers a few days early but due to the registration change month they were busy and I couldn't get it delivered until 4th September. This suited me fine as I had planned to use my previous car to seat 7 on a touring holiday in August anyway.

For those interested in the status codes:
1100 Scheduled
1200 Scheduled for Production
5000 Confirmed for Production
5050 Chassis Number Allocated
5055 Confirmed by Production Control

5100 Bodyshop Start
5190 Bodyshop Complete
5200 Paintshop Start
5270 Paintshop Complete
5300 Pre-Assembly Start
5400 Assembly Start
5500 Assembly Complete

6000 Transfer to Distribution
8200 Released to Carrier
9000 Departed Plant
9615/35/45 In Storage
9610/20/30/40/50/60 In Transit
9800 Arrived Dealer

Similar experience for me, order was placed in May but then pushed back because of the changes to model. Order went in on 26th June with a delivery date of 5th October. Lex provided weekly updates to say no change and then a day before delivery they said the production had actually been changed to October, with delivery early November. That changed 3 more times and I’m now in status 5055 with production next week and delivery end of the month. Lex are truly useless.

First post having stalked you all for a few months. Car ordered first week of July and delivered yesterday. A couple of answers to questions and a comment or two....

I can confirm the latest idrive is touchscreen.

It took 2 working weeks from arrival in the UK to my door.

I can also confirm that you will need split folding seats - the boot is smaller than I thought!

New indicator stalks......they now click into place instead of working by black magic! You cannot know just how happy this makes me. I will no longer be driving for miles indicating one way then the next as I frantically attempt to cancel the previous indicating mistake!! smile

I'll post my usage experience for anyone interested in real world economy figures

13 months in with the 330e
Total 13000 miles
Typical daily commute 20miles each way
Village/dual carriage way/ town(with stationary queues/then a steady 40mph A road to work.
No charging Facility at work
Charge everynight at home
Occasional 200mile weekend away type journey

Overall is 59mpg.

Opinion of the car -
It's ok. Good for effortless commute. Comfortable. Reasonable burst of speed for overtakes. Very good balance to chassis and a little playful rear on dual carriage way roundabouts if wanted.

What I don't like-
As with every modern BMW I've driven (that includes modern Ms) it has completely numb/artificial steering, that you can make heavy at the press of a button but never has any feel or satisfaction.
The 4 cylinder petrol is not an engaging engine, when with electric boost on top of is certainly effective but doesn't thrill like a big petrol would.
And that's all.

Should also note I am running this car for very little more than what it cost me in petrol alone per month before.

Overall I'm very happy with it, and would recommend to anyone looking for an interresting economical "easy" commuting car.
Hope this helps anyone tryin to work out how it would suit them

Where are the photos?? smile

I actually manage fine with the boot, and surprised I can fit as much as I can as I was worried about this (compared to my previous 3 series). this is mostly down to the shape so while you lose some hight, you don't lose anything in depth and so I can still fit just as many cases etc as before, but just can't pack as much on top of them.
