BMW 330e ordered...
Discussion
Got my 3rd 330e today, it is over a year old but has only done a few thousand miles as the girl that drove it lived in London.
I have noticed a couple of odd things already, the main one being when I connect the charger the engine cooling fans come on even when the car has not need used for a few hours. Never had this on my past cars so wondered if anyone gets this?

Battery cooling system. More likely to come on in hot weather. Our 330e is 26 months old & went in for a recall last Monday. I was told this was purely recoding for the air conditioning system, but given what has happened since I doubt it was this simple. Apparently the vehicle was recoded for 8 hours, after which it would not take any charge. A new component for the charging system was ordered from BMW but has not solved the problem. The car is still at the service centre and the BMW i-performance technician I've been speaking today freely admitted they haven't much of an idea what is going on because these cars are 'so complicated'! Has anyone else had problems (I am assuming the recall will be for the earlier 330es at least?)?
Quick update on this as a few other users have mentioned charging units being replaced on the earlier cars. Our 330e was eventually with BMW for two weeks - charging unit replaced (twice), and also part of the high voltage system (which apparently involved a technician from BMW UK visiting the dealer to carry out the work). Air conditioning recall my arse... I've had mine for a couple of months now and am very impressed. As mentioned earlier in this thread I wanted something for my commute of approx 12 miles and it just about does it depending on the traffic which is great, but nowhere near the claimed miles which would be a disappointment if I hadn't read about the real mileage on here.
I've done 1000 miles and used a quarter of a tank of fuel so far which is a pretty significant saving considering what I was spending on my M5.
All in all I'm very happy but the range definitely needs to be a lot better which I assume is coming with the new model. There is something very relaxing wafting in complete silence I drive a lot more sensibly now which is no bad thing.
I got the M sport as it was cheaper than the SE and deleted the sport suspension and went for 18" wheels and the ride is superb. (I also removed the m badges from the wings as it is not a M by any stretch of the imagination!)
Thanks for all the advice folks I'm now a convert.

Had my first 2 big run outs in the car they were:
240 miles - started with half charge and managed another half charge at my customers, all ecopro mode and managed 47mpg. Mix of motorway, A roads (60 mph) and town
202 miles - started half charge and another half charge on the way home, mainly A roads (60 mph) all comfort mode and managed 49mpg
The cars feels much more responsive in comfort mode and the regens better that the coasting (off throttle) in ecopro mode so comfort is the setting I will be using from now on.
I’ve come from a diesel which have 65mpg regardless of how I drive it so fairly happy so far with what I’m getting.
I’m surprised how comfortable the car is with the M Sport suspension and 18inch wheels, I have had an E90 M Sport with 17 inch wheels and although it felt planted on the road you could fee every stone and bump. The 330e is a much much better ride

rd? the 330e has barley been around for a couple of years, how on earth have you managed 3 already?
I had one of the first UK cars in 2016, apart from tyres (quite a few) and a set of brake disks under warranty, a drama free 2 years and close to 60,000 Miles (it even graced a PH run and held it own plus a euro road trip)As I lIked it so much I went for another one which was a cancelled order Shadow Edition with some nice options. Unfortunately I was in a serious collision at the start of the month and the car declared a total loss.
After a coupe of weeks and in a rental car someone has left in the company so I have taken on her car (another 330e M-Sport with no options 😢)
Had mine for 4 weeks now. Ordered at the beginning of January.
Bloody lovely car, charge it at work only. I specced the ACC and coupled with the auto gearbox makes my commute a total breeze.
Only thing that I found annoying is it does not display the artist name and track name when playing music on DAB. Pretty poor for a car of this level I thought.
That and almost running several people over in Asda's car park as they cant hear you coming.
Mine is M Sport with 18" wheels. The ride is perfect. Much better than the GTD it replaced.

Mine’s in the garage at the moment - hopefully only 2 days:-
- developed a fault in the fuel breather system to open the tank for re-fuelling that meant car had to be left several hours for electronic fuel flap switch to open. Workaround was to open the fuel flap before setting off for the garage in the morning
- seemed to be some ECU re programming needed (car is 18 months old and has only been in once late last year for a coolant sensor on the ICE coolant system
- and also said they’re replacing starter motor, though didn’t seem to be anything wrong with it
Should have ordered a replacement by now but my car scheme renewal system seems a bit screwed, but even if it wasn’t choice doesn’t seem great right now. 330e not available, c350e facelift not available yet, 530e available but slightly too large and would appear to take a tax hit in 2021 due to under 30 ev range. Really don’t fancy a non phev as love the mix of smooth ev and performance (oh and the tax....)
