When I picked the car up the dealer said replacing the starter motor was a precautionary measure as they’ve had incidents where some teeth break off the motor which damages the gearbox. Mine’s a late 16 car.

If you’re unlucky enough to have problems opening the fuel flap like me then you may look in the manual and see that there’s an emergency release in the boot behind the side carpet cover. You may then struggle to find the release and take a look at YouTube clips of someone using the emergency release. Puzzled as to why you still can’t find it, you may then ring BMW Assist who will also be puzzled, until they put you on hold and check with a technician. The emergency fuel flap release was only on early cars.

All gone apart from a few Sports and SE’s in dealer stock when I was trying to reorder one.

Talking to someone I know at BMW the used ones are struggling as people are scared of taking on the technology. A quick look on Autotrader and there are 2 year old M Sports under £20k

That’s not bad when you see what lease companies actually pay for these cars. Mine was £26k!

Fortunately, just me and missis home as kids are away on a Scout camp, so yes OK, thanks.

Police believe it’s been stolen to order....rural N Wales believe it or not!

Upside is it’s a company car, downside I’ve now got to sort a temporary car and then another lease car.... :-(

But it’s only a car, is insured and can be replaced...

Excellent news, Lucky they didn’t turn the setting off in the car

Update from me....

Car recovered and has gone for forensic examination.

Appears to be undamaged, but until I see it I cannot confirm.

I find it surprising that the thieves don’t know how to deactivate the gps tracking. I obviously won’t go into detail here.

I’m now in contact with the lease co regarding the missing key, I believe it will need to go to the dealer to have the key deactivated from the car and possibly have the metal key in the fob and drivers lock barrel replaced?

It won’t be at my address until that is done, meanwhile I’m in a hire car... :-)

I wonder if they knew it was electric before they got in it rather than "ooh thats a nice beemer - we will have it!"

They obviously cant have been that smart if they didnt rip out the telematics kit though!.

What telematics kit? It was tracked from connected drive- think all they needed to do was turn off GPS

Telematics=connected-drive

on the BMW forums theres mention of "op cundall" which allow BMW to track the car as long as the connected-drive box is still connected.

Consequently those in the know would pull over and disconnect the box to stop the car reporting back full stop shortly after the car is taken.

I’ve had mine for nearly 11 months now, 17k mileage and other than an intermittent coolant warning (been to Sytner twice) have had no major problems.

Love the car and it’s Jekyl and Hyde nature still surprises me at times.

That said however, it seems to have developed an irritating issue with the Bluetooth. Previously with my old personal IPhone 7 I could connect this phone and also my work Samsung with no problems - one for music, the other for work calls.

Strangely since upgrading to an iPhone X they generally won’t work together. It’s odd and when I click on the iPhone on idrive it brings up the Samsung and vice versa, making I really difficult to switch between the two. The only solution I have found is to delete th devices and then completely reconnect, which is a massive ball ache and also not particularly safe when driving. Has anyone else had any issues or any ideas of what it could be?

I have car play as an option now, but my screen isn’t touch screen - could it be the software, too advanced for the hardware is causing this?

It also means I cannot change tracks via the steering wheel and small screen - it now just displays track 1 as opossed to the track name, with no option to toggle.

Any help would be appreciated!

Edit - 17k not 27k

try connecting via Bluetooth before you plug your iPhone in.

I’m not even plugging in anymore, just connecting via Bluetooth so sadly it’s not the plugging in that’s the issue.

I’ve got to the point where I’ve just added all my music to a small 16gb memory stick and plugged it into the armrest slot.
Haven’t looked back, plus it saves my battery on my phone; all the details still come up on screen and you can use the toggle option too.
