I went from a 430d to a 330e for 2 months. The 430d was faster and 2mpg more economical overall on mostly m/way miles. Also the 330e was noticeable less agile.

On the plus side the 330e was really smooth and very quiet so not that much of a compromise from a x30d.
I think these are more of an "town car" if that makes sense, better for the urban crawl not long steady runs ( possibly at speed) where the bigger diesel excels?
100% this, if BIK is not a consideration it totally depends on your usage profile as to whether a 330e makes sense for you.

I drive mine everyday and usually get 600-900 miles to a tank.

Slight issue with the car today. Started the engine this morning and it went straight into petrol mode, revved to 2k rpm and was whining.

I set off down the road and got a “Drivetrain malfunction” warning which said I could continue to drive. Realised within about 100m that the car was in full limp mode and wouldn’t even get past 18mph, whining the whole time.

So the car is sat on my drive and I’m waiting for BMW assist to come and hopefully diagnose/sort the problem. Their ETA is 9.30 so I’ll update once they’ve been.

Has it had the same behaviour when you've restarted?

Attempted to start it and put it in full e-mode?

Also have you had the starter motor work done?

Not heard of anyone have the 2k rpm limit before though. Several people at work have had drivetrain issues but they've all been the starter motor work (or so the dealers have told us).

I’ve restarted it multiple times and the issues remains, I’ve not had any starter motor work done and there are no outstanding software updates or recalls on the car.

The BMW emergency services mechanic says it sounds like an issue with the electric motor itself and there is a tow truck enroute to pick the car up.

Annoyingly, despite him saying I would be put back in a similar car, BMW assist say they have an agreement with Enterprise, so I’m not holding much hope for another 3 series.

Sorry to hear that, Shepster.

When mine had the Charging Control Unit replaced, BMW gave me a loaner from an outfit called Licensed Carriage Hire based in Elstree. I had a choice of an i3 or a 220d Gran Tourer. I went for the latter, which had a tamper proof locked in dashcam installed. I assume it's standard fitment on all their loaners.

They will always put you in a BMW though. When my 320d ate it's gearbox I asked the Enterprise man if I could try the (then) new C-Class, but I couldn't as it had to be a BMW. They gave me an X5 in full drug dealer spec. biggrin

Somebody - Thanks, it was a bit of a sad moment 10 minutes ago watching it being driven away on the back of a flatbed!

RicksAlfas - Well I live in hope. I'm glad they have to give a BMW, we use Enterprise at work and the default seems to be a Hyundai i30 or a Picasso, which I definitely don't want!

Shepster - no doubt you are tracking its route on your connected-drive app. When mine was in, I could see that it was unlocked on a Sunday. Not knowing whether it was indoors or outdoors, I decided to lock it remotely. Then unlocked it on the Monday morning.

I will do, sadly my Connected Drive app is always 15 minutes behind but i can see it's definitely going the right way to Sytner!

I’ve been given a 320d, it’s an efficient dynamics so the contract between it and my 330e is very apparent.

Really hoping mine isn’t in for too long.

Is that with charging it everyday? What sort of driving does that cover?

So 6 weeks in, 3475 miles and overall average is 48.2mpg. Lots of mixed journeys but quite a few 250+ in there with 3/4 charge to start so fairly happy and pretty much always have the aircon on. Don’t always charge fully sometime only half. Drive mostly in comfort mode, put in sports on occasion and rarely in ecopro.

Love the car, fast and comfortable but finding it has some annoying squeaks from the door seals.

After what seems like an eternity, my order from February is being delivered Thursday.

Slightly concerned by the recent spate of error messages, recalls and less happy elements of car ownership reported on here, but I'm sure mine will be fully up to date and I'm quite excited....

Cruciate - that’s exciting news, bet you can’t wait.

Although mine has had a fairly serious issue (more on that below), I know a few people with these cars and generally they have been issue free - irritating cooling messages aside.

An update on my breakdown, BMW seem to have think the high voltage wiring loom has failed and needs replacing. Sadly due to a parts delay and their lack of mechanics trainees to work on e drives, it will be with them for another 2 weeks.

I appreciate the smoothness of the 330e so much more now having been stuck in the diesel for nearly a week. It really is a far superior drive and power delivery.

An update on my stolen 330e....

It’s still at the dealers, still awaiting parts.

The dealer chased BMW earlier this week with an estimate of 4-6 working days.

The parts didn’t arrive yesterday (the 4 day minimum), so I’m presuming, without much hope, that they’ll arrive early next week.

If that all hold true, then it will have been with the dealer for four weeks (to change the CAS unit and supply a set of new fobs, key blades and a drivers door lock barrel!)

Looks like I’m in the 5er for another week....

Mine was a private purchase; generally it’s just used for my commute of 12.5 miles each way which it does in Winter, just about. I’m able to charge at work. Will have to see what battery capacity degradation does for it.

My current tank: have about a quarter of a tank left, and I’ve done over 3500 miles... there’s been the odd ~120 mile round trip with no charging the other end, doing mid 50s mpg IIRC.

In total done 12250 miles with the app reporting combined mpg for all trips as 121.2 mpg.

That's perfect use for one, mine was more a BIK choice, although I charge at work when I can I do lots of 200+ mile journeys and see 40ish, I did run out of petrol the other day and it forces max e drive when I only had 8% left, luckily enough to make a fuel station.

Hey all, I've managed to finally get the app synced with the car. I realised I hadnt put in my personal info or banking to the online connected drive portal.

Hi All

sorry to jump in on this thread but it seems the most comprehensive 330E one going!

I am just about to hand back a Mercedes C220D AMG Line Prem Plus after 4 years on a company lease and can get the 330E for around £30 per month cheaper on the lease.

The Merc is costing me approx £320 per month in BIK tax - the 330E M-Sport Shadow Edition looks like costing me around £206 per month - so saving me £114 per month tax. = Total saving on lease and tax is approx £150 per month in my pocket.

I do 14000 miles per year - hardly any business mileage - its just a perk TBH so no mileage to speak of claimed back - I pay for all my own fuel.
My commute is 19 miles there and then 19 miles back (I get 49mpg in the Merc)

Any advice from anyone if its worth going for the 330E? seems a no-brainer - I just am wary am I prob going to be getting 39mpg on the 330E but will the electric only journeys save me that?

just seems too good to be true? Cheers in advance.
