So I got my car (DEC 2017, 3.5k miles, Sunset orange Msport) and loving it!

I have a couple of questions:
1. Regenerative breaking - so it works well and when coasting downhill, pressing the brakes generates electricity which is great, however, reading i the manual (on the brakes) BMW says don't break for long periods (to not overheat the brakes) - how do these two reconcile?

2. Auto e-drive seems to just use the electricity until it runs out then use ICE - how is it different to E-Max mode?

Thank you!

I just took cheap last leasing car - where I can check what I should get. ?
Just wondering about parking sensors they are included or not and remote services.

Mines a couple of months older
1) Why would you brake for long periods? It slows you down and then you use elec to get back up to speed.
2) Auto e drive will use the engine above certain speeds (approx 50) and when used in conjunction with eco pro and destination in the sat nav will change between ICE and elec depending on route conditions. E-max uses elec until in runs out.

Nice car! Congrats.

If I go down hill I always use cruise control which keeps it at the preset constant speed and re-generates.

Max Drive will not have the ICE cut in at all until the power is used up. Auto eDrive does attempt to use electric power where it can and fire up the ICE where necessary, e.g. assist up hills.

Front and rear parking sensors, remote services (lock/unlock vehicle remotely/headlight flash), and other connected services like cabin pre-conditioning and eDrive services are standard on the 330e.

The M-Sport come with the dakota leather as standard, has bigger wheels and a more aggressive sporty look.

Base M-sport does not have privacy glass (£350 option) - Pre March-built cars do not have folding rear seats either so will depend when it was built.

Edit: given your earlier description... is yours a NHS lease by any chance?

Privacy glass is an option, as are folding rear seats until April 2018 IIRC when they became standard across the board.

I have both. The folding seats came as part of the interior comfort pack that also includes heated seats and steering wheel, and adjustable sliding arm rest between the front seats.

Privacy glass was a £265 option until the recent April/May '18 price increase, when it went up to £320.

I've had my car exactly a year now and ordered early May 2017. I've been tracking the prices since. In a year, the base list price increased by £2,265, but they added LED headlights and folding seats as standard.

Yes it is NHS Fleet lease deal. Thank you very much for all answers. So I have all what I want - Privacy glass was not necessary.
Car is on NG18 XXX reg plate, taxed till august next year So I hope it is newest build with folding seats.

Same as mine then, standard spec in mineral grey.. got ours mid-march and it was a February build. the non-folding rear seats is the biggest pain with this car for me.. other than that, it has all the other stuff i want/need without extra options.

Any still being sold/leased now will all be 18 plate pre-reg as the 330e has been dropped from the range due to WLTP testing.

Long time lurker - First time post....

Thanks to everyone that has contributed to this thread - This is easily the most informative forum for 330E info - It's been a great help in understanding how to get the best out of the car.

Took delivery of my 330E at the end of July, after ordering it way back in February. Suspect it was one of the last factory ordered cars before they closed the order books.

Have done 2900 miles so far with a mix of Motorway and London driving (720 of those electric according to BMW Connected) and love the car.

With Autumn / Winter approaching I have one question that I can't find an answer to.......

If you precondition the car before departure, what is the minimum battery charge required for it to operate when not plugged in to a charger?
The user manual only says 'adequately charged'.

Appreciate that variations in outside temperature might mean the car requires different levels of charge so here's the situation I'm interested in:

I often work early mornings / late nights, and have to park away from a charger. On a cold morning (say 0 to +5 degrees C) - what's the minimum charge required by the car for preconditioning so I can warm the interior / clear the windows ?

Not really bothered how much of a hit the battery takes - will happily sacrifice economy for a warm, demisted car !

I'm looking for an approximate percentage so that if needed I can drive for a for a short while in Save mode before parking in order to raise the charge level over the required amount.

Thanks in advance.

In my experience that has seemed to assume that you will charge at the intermediate destination so it will still try to use all battery by that intermediate point. Although someone on here has suggested the car learns, so if it doesn’t work first time try a few times and it might learn what to do. For me it’s only ever been individual trips, so no opportunity to learn...

Welcome!

I can’t answer your question for definite, but I would guess it won’t precondition if it would take the battery below about 15%. It could easily take 20% of the battery to warm the cabin at low temperatures, maybe even more. When mines plugged in it can take over 3KW for half an hour to precondition, although that will be cabin and battery (it won’t directly precondition the battery if not plugged in, although drawing current through it to precondition the cabin will indirectly condition it to an extent). So you’re talking about 1.5KWh which is about 25% of the usable capacity of the battery.

At a guess then I’d say you want to allow 40% remaining if you want to precondition when not plugged in. Others may be able to give advice from experience though.

Also invested in "bimmercode" for some slight coding, now have "beep" for locking and unlocking, door handle illumination on reverse, Mirror dips on reverse & parking light (side light) brightness higher like the DRL so i can have the dash illuminated, coming form an Audi i really miss the dash being lit, surprised BMW still haven't done this.
Can you clarify what you mean by the illumination dash? First time I hear of it, perhaps a pic? Thank you!
Sorry TB404 i missed this post

Basically i find the dial a bit dark and hard to read at times, coming from an Audi where its always lit and in back lit, equivalent of the BMW with the lights on, so coded the side lights to be brighter so ican drive with them on in the day and have the dash lights on, I also missed the digital speedo so added that too..
