Had Schneider Electric come fit a BMW basic "Wallbox-Pure" wall charger for my i8 the other day. Totally free (not even an install charge) and looks very nice and saves me using the cars supplied 3-pin charger. Or so I thought.

However the new fangled wall jobby only charges at 98% capacity. The supplied one is always 100%. What's 2% ? Well not much but it equates to 25% less miles in EV mode. With wall charger 12 miles. With in-line supplied 3-pin 13Amp charger 16 miles.

Had a long chat with BMW's installation partner, Schneider and was told that they don't charge fully because it can damage the battery. Very odd I said. How come the one supplied with the car does it 100% each time every time to 16 miles?!

He was of course running out of ideas and didn't really know bar to say the wall charger was fine and it was the car telling it to do what it is doing. It maybe but I might as well bought myself another in-line charger, screwed it to the wall, plastered fancy "I" symbols all over it and got 100% charge!

Any other i8 owners care to comment please?

Never used anything other than the standard i8 charger - and always charge to 100%. Normally 16 miles - occasionally (usually after a decent motorway run) it will go up to 18 miles.

Thank you Graham for your input. You wouldn't believe the twaddle I got from Schneider. I have just taken off the 3-pin charger and its 100% and showing 16 miles whilst stationary. I'll use it over the next few days and then revert back to the Wall charger "Pure". After which I will call Schneider who will in turn blame the i8 and BMW will in turn blame the Wall charger. I can see this going on and on....
