Bmw 530e ordered?
Discussion
I finally took delivery of my 530e last week. So far I'm very impressed. Lovely to drive with a very well sorted drivetrain. My 23 mile commute was 253mpg on the way in and 175 mpg on way home (full battery at the start of each drive. At this rate my trips to fill the small fuel tank will be few and far between.
Many congratulations. I am sure it was worth the long wait. Any pics?
I have had mine since July. Absolutely stunning car. I am averaging 78 mpg after 7500 miles.
It is most fun driving in Max E drive (for the shorter/work/local journeys) and more than quick enough.

First 'week' of commuting over in the new car. I charge at home and and work with 23 mile trip each way. I've had between 160mpg and 260mpg so far reported via the app for each trip and I'm driving at same speeds as normal. I use max edrive for most of the trip, knocking in to auto for a big mway hill. I can arrive on the last few electrons in the battery in this way.
I should save about a grand a year in commuting fuel... Which is nice.

whats the ride on the Msport like? (on a mates 4 Msport is was very hard)
Are there any must have options? (top of my list is the tech pack for the HUD)

Currently considering one of these for a company car (current run an BMW 5 2.0D SE spec), but have a couple questions

I test drove a new 530D Xdrive Sport (as there were no 530E demos) - i personally found the ride too firm for the roads we have with potholes, speedbumps etc and ordered my 530E in SE spec but with Adaptive Damping. It seems to work well. Bear in mind that in the 530E in either SE or Sport spec, you are aware of the heavy weight of the batteries over the rear axle which does affect the handling making the 530E less of the Ultimate Driving Machine than it would be without the batteries. In fact , the best quality about the 530E is the refinement (NVH) and ride quality which is up there with the best.Currently considering one of these for a company car (current run an BMW 5 2.0D SE spec), but have a couple questions

HUD is one of the few options I did not choose as I find the HUD on my X5M is not great with polarised sunglasses. I also did not choose Comfort locking as I feel it is a security weakness. Other than that I have most of the other options.
The B+W sound system is great, Apple Car Play is rubbish, Comfort seats with heating and ventilation work well.
Overall I am really pleased with my 530E which I have had since early May 2017.
Improvements - well it would be nice if the battery did actually do 29 miles as my commute just happens to be 29 miles but in real life I get around 19- 21 miles before the petrol engine kicks in. The refinement of the 4 cylinder motor or rather lack of it when pushed clashes with the overall refinement of the 530E. It is a shame BMW did not tune the engine to the same output as the same engine in the 740E.
The boot design where the window meets the rear boot lid is flawed with an unusual double seal which is a leaf/debris trap.

Thanks. I have a demo coming in the next couple of weeks but no idea what spec.HUD is one of the few options I did not choose as I find the HUD on my X5M is not great with polarised sunglasses. My current 5 is an SE spec as most of my motoring is motorways and I found the Msport slightly "jiggly" so I'll probably go SE spec as well.
Hi folks
What is the story with the gearbox? I know it is the usual ZF 8 speed, however it makes a point on the BMW website of saying "automatic gearbox with paddles" rather than the usual "sport auto transmission".
Also, anyone got one following a 530d/330d? Any comments on performance, especially after the battery is flat?

Its the same gearbox as the sport-auto but with the motor in place of the usual torque convertor. What is the story with the gearbox? The gearbox can be coded to be sport-auto however it will never feel quite as snappy due to the additional rotational-mass of the motor.
Other than that it has the same sport/sport+/manual modes.
As for performance, it always feels fast, as there is still charge left for e-boost when it disables e-drive mode when battery goes below about 8%
Picked up my 530s, plain SE trim, and happy with it so far. Couple of minor niggles - the tan trim has a definate orange tinge and the dealer forgot to activate the sat nav.
Just done my long(ish) trip (120miles) and the battery is flat. I've set it to maintain the charge at 90% but it hasnt. How do you force it to charge?

Just had my order confirmed for the 530e M Sport (company car scheme through Lex). I was told 22 weeks but the driver portal is saying ETA stock 16/7/18. I'll not be holding my breath but hope it gets sooner than the 22 weeks. It's not particularly fuel economic for me as I do lots of motorway miles but I'll still be quids in with the BIK. No brainer for a 50K motor. I was also looking at the A6 SE Executive (Tech Pack) which would have cost me about £30 a month more.
I'm really warming to the vdc suspension on mine. It certainly becomes 'taut' in sport mode but still comfy unlike the a4 blackedition i had before. The adaptive mode is great to. On a fast b road it was a little floaty in ecopro mode.. Switched to adaptive and ride smoothed out as it firmed up just enough to get rid of the float... Very impressive
I'm upgrading soon from a 330e Sport to a 530e MSport. Had the 330e for 2 years and loved every minute and I hope the 3 years with the 530e will be just as good.
I can see that this forum has 2 pages compared to 205 pages for the 330e. Either you're out driving or there's just nothing to say about the 530e.
Has anybody else tried both the e's and what have you noticed in the way they drive?

I've got a 48 hour test drive today of a 530e Msport
So far very impressed. Averaged 40+mpg on a 35 mile m-way drive. I have it on charge now and will see how I do on the commute to work tomorrow. (23miles). The performance is impressive, and totally seamless as to whether you are on the ICE or electric motor.
The new idrive is very impressive to, and I love the ability to write characters on top of the idrive controller for address input.
I have a Merc E350e over the weekend so will be interesting to see how they compare.
Im late to the party here and have just read this thread. I really dont see how a hybrid car can be seen as a success returning an mpg with 40 in the headline number! I used to own a 525d (6 cyclinder) which was returning 44mpg on a run back in 2009. Real progress would be seeing a big barge returning 70/80mpg. So far very impressed. At our office we have poo car access to 530e's 330e's, GTE's, Jag, Mondeo and VAG diesels. While the Hybrid are great (especially the Golf GTE) they suffer when on long motorway trips and can be down to low 30's mpg if not charged before hand.
The diesels achieve 55mpg at 70-85mph. 60+ 70mph and less
However for shorter commutes especially around town Hybrid they are excellent.
A few weeks back I did a 120 mile run down the a303 and back roads to north Somerset. I 'made progress' the whole way and averaged 51mpg for the trip (plus 1 battery charge). My 2012 Merc e350d would not have done so well. The tech is really impressive. If you do a lot of long trips with no charging available at all then a 520d will be for you. But that is a slower noisier beast....
