Any value in used chargers ?

We are in the process of buying a house and the sellers have now sold their hybrid, When I asked if they were removing the charger from outside they said no. I wont want/need it and wondered if there is a market for them s/h ? I'm not 100% sure which hybrid he had but will find out all details, pretty sure it was the Mitsubishi PHEV ?

I wonder if one day all houses will be built with them as standard?

Why not keep it? What if relatives or friends visit who need a charge to get them back home? Might be attractive to a buyer if you sell on one day too.

Definitely don't have anyone I know with an EV, The charger is positioned where it sticks out from a wall I intend to park my van very tight too. I don't mind keeping it if its worthless, however I wont need it and if it had some value I would consider having it removed and shifted on.

I'm guessing now the reason they are leaving it is probably because its worthless

Depends on the brand and model type - PM me or stick a photo up if you can? Most are installed under grant schemes that can only be used once so it's normally more expensive to install a used one than a new funded one. but there are some installs that don't qualify for the grants so I might be interested depending on how old it is and what it is...

Will do once I get full details from vendor.

Just pulled mine off the wall and will be going on eBay, seem to be selling for 100-200 quid so will see how I get on with mine.
Used ev cars are now getting more common place so the government grants won't apply-hence the demand for used wall chargers.

Are the chargers specific to one model, can't they be used by any EV with an adapter or two?

Used cars do qualify for the grants - if the car is new to you, your home gets the grant...

Socket versions are 'universal' as you plug in the charging cable designed for your car. Tethered versions have a cable integrated so you need to choose the right one for your car (type 1 for Far East, type 2 for European/American) but for £100-150 you can change the tethered lead in future. If charging everyday the tethered version make most sense especially if you're keeping the same car for a couple of years or more

Ah the chargemaster unit - not for me I'm afraid but it will appeal to others as it's a 'fast' charger rather than the basic 16amp one. But it's a tethered unit so will only work with certain cars (lead can be changed but is over £100 to do so most people don't bother) eBay would be best bet or some of the EV forums - good luck

Looking pretty grubby - is it in an odd location? I've never been keen on them after seeing what they look like after a couple of years in the wild!

Does the plug have to be in the holster or can it just be left wrapped around the drum as it wouldn't be any wider than the downpipe that way and would then be available for when the OP gets an EV?

The charger sits on the side of the house, as you can see from pic below it slightly intrudes on the access to the garage, or at least makes it more likely to damage it when parking in the garage and I also intend to park the van outside the garage and tight as possible to the wall so no one decides force the rear or side doors. Owners have far less OCD than me and I suspect that's never seen a soapy sponge in the time its been there

We have one of those. As herewego suggested, there is no need for it to be plugged in to the 'socket'. It can just be wrapped around the body of the charger.

Just make sure the end is covered ideally with a rubber cap as the pins inside can rust easily and the heads of those (most) chargers are not great. The separate charging cables come with the rubber caps but don't think the tethered ones do as they want you to plug it in the the unit or a holster.

yeah that would be handy. Be a cold day in hell before I need a EV charger, I like making holes in the ozone so we have ridiculously hot days like today
