Tesla Roll-Out

California has accounted for roughly 50% of Tesla sales in the US. In LA your see a Tesla on every street, but in NewYork your see hardly any.
As am sure your aware when driving down the freeway most Americans cannot afford a $75k+ car. But I believe nearly all of the 400k+ reservations for the Model 3 is from the US market.
A Model X pulled out of a space on my street (in Manhattan) the other day. The car that took its space was ... a Model X. There are a few in Manhattan, but seeing one is the exception rather than the rule. There were more when I was in San Francisco, although still fewer than I expected.

Today I drove 400 miles from Vegas to northern California. I saw 2 model s bringing the total to 6. Still yet to see s model x over here. I'm not disputing the numbers of them over here, I'm just reporting what I'm seeing so far. I'm in San Francisco tomorrow and then working my way down the coast to LA and San Diego in the next week or so, so I'll probably see many more, just find it odd that in 2000 miles I've seen so few.

Its not that odd, just a sign how low EV adoption is despite some very real advantages over combustion cars.I cannot wait to see what the Jag iPace finally looks/drives like, and its good to see Infiniti how confirming an EV for 2019.
Lota of people seem to think the EV market is Tesla versus VW/BMW/Jag etc. The reality is for EV adoption to truly take off it the markets needs to be Tesla AND Jag AND VW etc.
I've driven nearly nearly every EV on the market over the last few years, and still find it amazing something as cheap as a Zoe is more refined/smooth to drive than my old BMW 335i.
I look forwards to the day when I get stuck in a traffic jam and look around to find my self surrounded by EVs......but that day is a long way off yet.

On my brother's street in Chicago (Evanston to be exact) there are 3 Model Ss and 2 Model Xs. See at least a dozen a day in the North Shore suburbs.Mate with an X is off to Looe in Cornwall next week with limited charging options, we looked in the boot of his X and there was a type 2 cable. I said he can borrow my granny lead and buy an adaptor, but might be worth seeing if Tesla can help him out. He rang the dealer, and they said there should have been a UMC lead in the boot. 2 weeks later after quite a bit of hassling someone delivers one in time for him to go away on Sunday. And the plastic handles on the boot floor are falling off. Other than having kerbed an alloy he is loving it.
Tesla originally said the X would be out in 2015, we got ours only a few month ago.
Anyone who have actually followed Tesla product development will be familiar with the concept that 'Tesla time' doesn't follow normal human time .

It makes the 2018 deliveries for the UK look questionable.Anyone who have actually followed Tesla product development will be familiar with the concept that 'Tesla time' doesn't follow normal human time .

I regularly see 4 or 5 Model S in my area (between Bishops Stortford to Chelmsford) and I know it's not the same car because they're different colours. The new electric MINI might be interesting and I could be persuaded by a Model 3 to add some balance to my carbon footprint.
I'm on my second Tesla, I've recounted in the past how the first one ended up being free after driving 53,000 miles in 2 years in it thanks to the tax incentives, the free electricity from the superchargers and what I got back when I sold the car.
My new one, February 2017 is a loaded 90D, I've been overseas for 3 weeks so the mileage has dropped a bit but will be turning over 28,000miles in the next few days.
Is it perfect, hell no, if it had a petrol engine I wouldn't go near it as for the price (list on mine was around £99k) there is so many better alternatives. But as an EV, and a long range high mileage car I don't think it can be beat and it's going to be a while before something comes along to better it. Yes the iPace and perhaps a new BMW and even the Bentley will be a better overall car but until any of those manufacturers get a decent charging network in place they are still going to be also-rans.
The Tesla and all EV's I've looked at are soul-less compared to many sports cars but as a daily driver if you are able to have a second car for fun then they are the way ahead.
