I was in a Tesla store yesterday, whilst the interior isn’t shabby it certainly isn’t a VAG quality (just a first impression) and the dash....a massive screen in the centre Oh yuk
They're american and pretty much all american cars are built to the same quality. The massive screen is more than a massive screen, its a change of ethos in how you provide control to features in the car, they add extra software buttons from time to time, something you simply can't do in a traditional car.

The simple answer is if you don't like it, don't buy it. I don't like Audis having owned one. I don't like Mercs either for the same reason. But these things come and go, be boring if we all thought the same.

It did make me chuckle somewhat when the sales woman claimed Tesla did not use Marketing to sell their cars.......
I think she meant to say they don't advertise in the press, its slightly different. They have for a number of years done pop up stands, taken retail outlets, gone to shows etc, they just don't pay for a full colour spread in Car magazine.
I do take your point about the ability to just add features to a glass screen, but heck its bright and distracting but then again I suppose these new cars are not "Drivers Cars" they are heading rapidly for Driverless capability so the panels need to be for entertainment.....

I know TESLA like some American companies do take a differing route where they spend their marketing budget but a pop up stand or a retail outlet is still marketing.
I would way prefer the model3 to have buttons like a normal car. Can’t say the huge screen appeals especially with no dials at the steering wheel. Glancing over to a screen for the speedo is just bizarre.

Yes, you're partially correct with the last half of that sentence but it's not that distracting at all. One you drive it you realise how little time you need to spend looking at the display.

There are two multi-function controls on the wheel. There's hardly anything you need to touch on the display during normal driving, other than maybe using the sat-nav, but the voice control will probably eliminate that once they've added more functionality to it.

I have a Model X. As I said in one of these threads, I think it is a £60k car in terms of what you get (size, features, luxury, build quality) for which they charge £100k. Is it worth it? Yes and no. It is for the cool factor/first adopter/environmental smugness/0-60 hilarity/talking point/funky experience/cheap running costs. I've never known my wife get so attached to a car in the 30 years I've known her. But it is silly money if you have to count every penny. The looks and interior are marmite too.

Not for everyone but I was slightly surprised how much I have liked the car (it would be my first choice for a family trip out of my little fleet), especially as buying it was the worst car experience I've had in my life by a comfortable factor.
I wouldn't ever say that someone shouldn't buy one, and clearly you have found it a delight to own. I like Marmite but not this car, would you swap it for say a Jaguar I Pace in the future?
I haven’t looked at one. I suspect it will be too small for our needs - my wife ideally wants 7 seats for reasons only known to her. If Tesla goes bust, we’ll have one to replace the Model X. If the next Gen Range Rover is all electric, I’ll get one to replace my ICE one. Probably will get the hybrid one in the meantime.

Makes a bit of a mockery of not using your phone whilst driving doesn't it?

Presumably you’ll be able to use a phone freely once real autonomy is achieved. But there’ll be even less need for it to be hand held with an iPad instead of a dash.

As detailed as it can be in 24 tweets - Why Tesla can't make more than a total (all models combined) of 5,000 cars per week right now

https://twitter.com/eriz35/status/1012670930898825...

TLDR. The paint shop can only handle 5k/wk. It took 12 months to build / commission. Plans exist for a 2nd paint plant, but building hasn't started yet.

Any link?

Last official numbers were in Q1 letter to investors:

record week = 2,270 * m3 + 2,024 * s / x = 4,294

I’ve seen rumours of higher numbers of m3, but nothing official and nothing quoting total production since

Bloomberg tracker has them at 4500 plus 2k for the s/x production.

Nothing official but Bloomberg lags a bit.

Official data will be out soon anyhow I guess

Although that thread seems to have some big assumptions about the VOC emissions per vehicle painted. When the thread creator was challenged about that he didn't seem to have any response.

Well it looks like the Tesla haters have to put up with Tesla/Musk staying in business for another quarter. But am sure by the end of Q3 2018 they will be bankrupt wink.

They haven't hit 5000 p/w number for the paint facility reasons already pointed out. They can only fudge the numbers for so long though, so it will be interesting to see what they can concoct in the coming months. My money will be on another superfluous product launch that won't make it to market but makes investors cough up again.

Now then, dont be so negative.

I mean you must have seen all those new generation Roadsters ripping up the tramac hitting 60 mph in less than 2 seconds, and what about all those Tesla semi trucks that are speeding across the freeways of the USA. He will be making 100,00 a year I tells thee, or Musk does.

Just not yet.

Look Squirrel............

Cheers,

Tony
