ah the ol' they'll go bust if they dont make enough/dont have enough orders switcheroo.

now the dealer network certainly needs beefing up its not a boutique high end little car maker any more.
Why does every post backed up with numbers that you can't put a constructive argument against result in an accusation that we think the company is going bust?

They are walking a tight line between the two - they're slow to ramp which is burning cash and the 500k as was order book isn't transpiring into sales of higher gross profit models that far into the future. They're rightly milking the higher margin cars but at some point they need to manage the cost / sales figure to manage to a sustainable level. Musk says they can't build a 35k car profitably at the moment - they need to find a way fairly soon

If Tesla wants to compete seriously with mainstream manufacturers in the UK and the rest of Europe it needs to expand the dealer network.

So they'll work on it in the street, bring a portable ramp system to lift the car off the ground, carry all the tools and diagnostic equipment plus a range of miscellaneous spares? It seems like a far more inefficient method of working to me. Imagine 10 cars arriving at a centralised location for service work in a single day. Now imagine a mobile service van (or multiple vans) visiting 10 different locations all over East Anglia. It would take hours just to get to the customer and then they'll find they haven't got the right part on board the service van. Or maybe the service van is a Tesla Semi?

Tesla's (and other EV's) should be far more reliable, pretty much the only moving part is the electric motor ans simple one speed drive line. For the dual motor's there's even built in redundancy. biggrin

This is one reason you don't actually need to service Tesla's to keep the warranty.

That makes sense but why, then, do Tesla charge about 4 times more, for an S service plan, than what Jaguar charge for an XF?

I thought Tesla's had brakes, suspension, steering, doors, boot lids, wheels, tyres, heating and ventilation systems, electric windows/mirrors/seats just like every other car? If you ask the average car owner what problems they have had with their cars it will probably be batteries, tyres and electrics.

Are you comparing like with like? I'm pretty sure Jaguar service plan doesn't cover things like air conditioning or brake fluid changes like the Tesla one does.

Jaguars is also very restrictive on miles (50,000 miles in 5 years!?).

Because people will pay it. Have a look at what's included in a Tesla service, and it's not even needed to maintain the warranty.

So there’s no good reason to pay all that money but owners do? Wow!

And all that stuff from tesla about why it should be done is bullst?

When you list key fob battery replacement as one of the 9 service items, you know it's a serious service!

I have a model 3 on order and I don't no tend to get it serviced by Tesla. Given the prices I'm seriously considering setting up an EV service centre because it's pretty much money for nothing.

I've mantained way more serious kit than the average EV.

Out X is now coming up to the first 12.5K 'service' interval. I have no problems with spending money on cars, yes the Tesla 'service' is expensive but even the £2600 4 year service plan is tiny fraction of the invoice price....But am also not in the habit of burning money, there is literally nothing in the Tesla 'service' plan that is even £100 worth if work - brake fluid change thats about it.

I'll get ours serviced once at the 4 year/50K mark and that'll be it. Out local garage is quite happy to do brake fluid change every 2 years.

With the expectation of wear/tear items all those things are covered by the 4 year/50K warranty which requires no servicing.

Current S owners are reporting brakes lasting 200K due to regen doing most of the slowing.

Yep an ev will still need brake fluid changes.
Often transmission fluid too, air filters etc

Less than an ice, the Tesla service costs are high..

They were struggling to hit 5k a week, not a month.
