It's frustrating, I'm trying to buy a low emissions car and dealers only have diesels as an option!
That depends on which emissions you are counting as important. Government and scientists are still making their minds up, and will continue to so so for a decade or two.oop north said:

They will be happening - hmrc have a policy of fixing / announcing co car tax bands three years in advance so that anyone getting co car for that period knows what tax they will payDone deal, now just need more cars for people to choose from.
I’m one of the people who had a BMW 330e on order and on my (December 2017) delivery date, I was told BMW have decided to keep my car and re-allocate it as a courtesy car / test drives at a dealership. They’ve given me another differently spec’d 330e free of charge while they build me a new one for delivery in April. This is a company car and that’s happened to quite a few people.
So the question is - if they’re stopping building the 330e, why have BMW retained so many as demo cars?

Just asked the Manchester dealer:
I have heard the rumour’s but nothing has been confirmed by BMW UK. There is a new 3-Series planned for later next year so any changes to 330e won’t be affected until then and the 5-Series is a brand new model and we are still ordering both cars with delivery ETA’s of June/July.

330e & 530e use too much fuel & range is too short. The tax saving is not worth it. If you are town bound fine but these cars do not add up for that kind of work, need something smaller, could get an i3 i suppose but they are just too ugly to contemplate imho.
320D & 520D are very frugal for distance & simple, I mean, who can be bothered with all that plugging in nonsense??

Tax savings not worth it? With company car tax, say in tax year 2019/2020 (2 year's time when the CO2 band for the 330e will be at its peak) this is how the taxable benefit would work out between the 330e and 320D:320D & 520D are very frugal for distance & simple, I mean, who can be bothered with all that plugging in nonsense??
330e 320D
Base OTR price (Jan'18) £35,620 £31,720
Highest CO2 49 116
BIK Band 16% (27% + 3% = 30%)
Benefit In Kind £5,699 £9,516
Tax at basic rate 20% £1,139.84 £1,903.20
Tax at 40% £2,279.68 £3,806.40
I'm not sure about you but the annual tax savings are certainly well worth it for me.
Damn' I can't get the table to come out right!

M3 also ending production early for the same reason so I guess that ties in with the rest of the range.

I have a 530e. 23 mile commute to work 70% mway and rest country a roads all fairly free flowing. First tank of fuel did 980 miles and took 40l to refuel. Second tank of fuel has only used 1/4 of a tank for 490 miles. I charge for free at work. So even factoring in home charge costs i'm about £80-£100 a month up on fuel compared to the a6 tdi ultra i had before. That is before the £150-200+ a month tax saving. Plus it is fabulous to drive on electric. Smaller boot only real downside for me
That's interesting. Haven't found many people with a 530e. My commute is 36 miles each way but no charging at work. Mainly motorway and a roads with a fair bit of start stop traffic.
Also a fairly regular 500 mile round trip with no ability to charge (unless I use a public charger).
I really want to find out how good/bad the economy is for my use case but can't find any demo models at dealerships!

I have a 330e and find the fuel consumption very erratic. Having had diesel most of my driving career you see some fluctuation based on how you drive. These cars are far more sensitive. If I charge each way I can get 63mpg in a 68 mile each way trip using eco pro. The same journey not charged and driving to make up for leaving late I can easily get into the high 20’s. Also a fairly regular 500 mile round trip with no ability to charge (unless I use a public charger).

I am lucky in that I get a fuel card but still have to be careful to meet the average 45mpg the company wants to achieve.

Mission-e by then????
Should be - https://electrek.co/2018/02/02/porsche-mission-e-a...Surely that will be the ultimate company car option - a fully loaded Porsche with 2% BiK

Referencing charging on your 500 mile round trip, if you’ve got the ability to park in a public car park and utilise some ‘destination charging’ the 3 or 7kw posts designed to give some charge whilst shopping / some similar activity then you’re good as these are quite often free. Also a fairly regular 500 mile round trip with no ability to charge (unless I use a public charger).

I wouldn’t look to use the rapid chargers you see at motorway service stations or the new ones at Shell service stations as PHEVs (Outlander aside) aren’t designed to take a rapid charge and will effectively tie up a machine whilst sipping at 3kwh when a full BEV could be using the full 50kwh or so during the same time.
These rapids usually have a higher cost of use and for the additional 20 miles in summer (or 8-15 in the cold weather you’ll get from the battery) then it’s far more costly than the equivalent of sticking some unleaded in the tank.
Just food for thought.

But....how does it compare to coming out of a company car scheme and buying privately?
Great car the 330e (nearly ordered one myself) but it designed around tax rules rather than as a 'whole'.
