Leading on from my first post; Tesla very kindly lent me a car over the weekend, which was great as it meant I could see how it works in normal life in terms of fitting kids (9,12,14) in etc.

The good news is that a Model S works for the five of us fine. The bad news is that Tesla say they are putting up their PCP rates this week by 0.7%. A bit of a pain as I did not really want to buy immediately, however the cheap rates really do make a difference. Decisions!

I have also enquired about a used AP1 75D at Hill Moren, has anyone dealt with them? I would probably still want some finance, has anyone secured a decent PCP rate outside of Tesla?

Tesla deals come and go, the pressure of changing finance rates is probably linked to selling a new inventory car before the quarter close. Once we’re into the next quarter there may be new deals (but there might not).

Hillmoren stock is usually Tesla stock they’ve sold out to the trade. I bought one from them and it was ok, but only because I knew what I was looking at and the car was 5k cheaper than any other and 8k cheaper than Tesla we’re advertising it for a month earlier. I’m still waiting for my free charger and the last email I had from them was ‘do you still want it?’

There are a lot more new inventory cars knocking around than they have listed so if you are going down that route then take a look here: it also lists most of the used cars outside the Tesla network.

http://savemylegs.com/tesla/forsale.html

There are a few new inventory, pre reg cars for around 70k, you just need to be ok with Tan interior. That’s 10k more than hilmoren but full warranty, slightly newer and the later version on AutoPilot. If Tesla deliver on their AutoPilot promises will be worth something in the future.

Thanks. Were Hill Moren open to negotiating when you bought?

Unlike the 8 y/o laptop the Tesla battery pack has thermal management, sophisticated charge management and special chemistry so the degradation will be nowhere near to a plain laptop or mobile phone battery.
Aren't Tesla batteries a standard sized 18650 cell, just loads of them and with better technology? As the price of li-ion batteries drop (due to them being fairly recently adopted technology) I could see the cost of rebuilding a battery pack dropping like a stone - particularly in 10 years time. And you will presumably be able to have it rebuilt with higher capacity, longer lasting cells if you want.

As I was trading in it was hard to tell if it was the part ex or the car price - we just talked about price to change and they moved a little but the car I had they were happy to retail themselves - no harm in trying.

If you can look at the car and see the VIN I can see if its one from Tesla and give you some more history on the car.

I was just called by Tesla, but I have just replaced the X5 with a X5. They were keen that I had a test drive and discussed options what ever they maybe.

It is a good time to negotiate, the reason for the X5 was a four year deal at 0%. This worked for me before I get some irritating responses

There’s speculation sales have struggled a little this quarter but to get a deal you’d need to take an inventory (ie in stock) new car and take delivery (or at least registered) before the end of month to count in this quarters stats. If you can do that, there’s no harm in asking. If you’re interested in an MX their may be less chance as there appear to be fewer cars around.

I posted a link higher up which you can use to see the new inventory carsthat are available

I bought an X100D for my wife about 6 months ago. She loves it. However, it was the worst car buying experience I've ever had in 30 years of buying cars.

I bought an ex-demo car with a few miles on it. This enabled us to get the 7 seat monopost configuration which is now sadly no longer available.

The car was poorly built and poorly prepared. It took a number of months to sort. Now it is, I can see that we'll probably always have an EV and probably a Tesla. It is a very impressive and surprisingly engaging thing.

Don't trade your ICE car into Tesla - they will be the least competitive bid that you get (worse the WBAC) and are difficult and unpleasant to deal with.

The end result of all the above is that I have just bought a very lightly used Model S 100D. Very happy with it, it has all the spec I would have wanted but would not have wanted to pay list price for.

I didn’t buy from Tesla (being told that a P85D was priced ‘razor sharp’ in the mid 60’s by their latest used sales guy rather ended that idea), but did get some good advice from Richard Symons, he is certainly someone I would be pleased to deal with in the future.

Just waiting to get the car added to my Tesla account next, enjoying it, it is silly fast yet when you want to chill with AP and great audio you can. Still have my old Porsche 968 for fun, driving the two back to back tonight was interesting, Tesla could still learn a few things about how well made some cars used to be!

Congratulations! Richard Symons is excellent and highly regarded. He will do very well, and especially whilst Tesla are such a shambles with their CPO’s. Have you joined the closed Facebook group? Plenty of good info in there.

I agree about the build quality, definitely room for improvement but for me it fine, and the rest of the car more than makes up for the odd dodgy panel gap or two.

Hope you enjoy EV ownership, kids love EVs, unlike some adults who seem just to hate the idea of anything different!!

Well done Biggles, great car.
I couldn’t stomach the cost of a new one either...nor could I pay for a CPO car from Tesla so ended up with one from Hillmoren.
Quite a high miler for only 1.5 years old but still well within Tesla warranty and also in for free supercharging as well as zero tax. It’s a P90D with an extremely high options list. Looking at the price this car sold at originally it would seem that I have got it for around £40k less than the new price.
So far can’t fault the service from Hillmoren, took my part ex in without issue and drove off with the Tesla all within an hour or two. A couple of issues that have arisen since and they have arranged a service / inspection with Tesla very quickly which will hopefully sort these out.
As for home charging a new unit is being installed on Tuesday (within 2 weeks of having the car) along side the one I have already for my i3 and all free of charge so very quickly arranged.
On my visit the Tesla I’ll arrange for the car to be registered to me so I can use the Tesla app, I’ve emailed them twice now with my details without a response....poor.
Just joined up the face ache Tesla forum and looks like a good lot of info there too.

So far so good and enjoying the car so thumbs up for me.

I'm still waiting for my charger and thats 6 months later. I did complain and their response was "do you still want it?" as I'd been living off a blue commando, erm... why would I complain if I didn't? Still not got it and I can't be arsed now as I'm getting a Tesla charger from a referral but it just shows they didn't understand what a commando socket is and what a charger is.

So relatively painless buying experience but they really know nothing about the cars. If you want advice, go elsewhere

Sorry to hear that Heres Johnny. Maybe they got a better installer now? I can only go on my experience as do you.
As for what they or any one else knows and I’m including Tesla themselves here there is a lot of discrepancies in what the cars are advertised with and what’s actually included. I nearly bought one that I thought was fully speced up but was far short of that in reality....

Sounds like a good car that you got BishBosh, Hill Moren seem to get some nice stock.

I messaged Tesla Friday about adding the car to my account, not holding my breath though. Do let me know if you get a breakthrough or helpful contact at Tesla in the meantime.

My car is only on 4k miles, though is nearly a year old; looking at what they do on the service I may hold off until I have some warranty work to do at the same time....

Hilmoren get stock from Tesla, although with Teslas part ex many dont bother trading them in and sell for themselves. The rain reason for this is Teslas pound isn’t that far away although I know other knowledgable dealers are refused access. Strange behaviour if you ask me,

As for inaccurate listings, I know only too well as I’ve got details on just about every car sold in the last year, currently for sale cars are here. I even list more Tesla stock than Tesla do,

I called Tesla last week, got put through to someone in Holland, and got the email address to contact to transfer the car to my account, which happened this morning, nice when things work. Have enjoyed playing with the 'summon' feature; a giant remote controlled car! Only downside is that I had unlimited charging until the car transferred over, and am on the standard 400kWh pa included now, which I guess more of us will have as time goes by and at least keeps the superchargers available for when really needed.

Just need the roof bars next before we go on holiday in August, if anyone has a set for a facelift model that they don't need let me know...

That’s great.... Thanks for the update.
I’ve been into the service centre in Milton Keynes and Birmingham but neither have managed to get my car transferred to my account. Think I’ll chase this hard tomorrow now. My car should be free supercharging for life so hopefully this will continue as I live just 8 miles from my nearest and use it as much as possible. Fastest I’ve had it up to is 350mph....
