Your last post said Sept 2021, are you planning to keep it for over a year? Or did you mean Sept 2020?
If it's Sept 2021 and you've got another 11,000 miles you should be good to avoid the service!
I think the service indicator will be based on the date of the last service.
My Bad, I definitely meant Sept 2020. (I'll edit post). If it's Sept 2021 and you've got another 11,000 miles you should be good to avoid the service!

Car was delivered to me in mid Nov 2018 so I assume it must have had ECU connected in factory in Sept.
Just rang my local dealer and asked about this "Scope Charge". Basically it's the diagnostic fault check, s/w updates and resetting the service indicator. Scandalous. That should be included as standard. Even if they don't read fault codes, they should reset the service indicator.
I imagine an independent BMW specialist would do it for sub £200.
Alternatively arrange to end the lease before the service is due, sometimes the cost of the service doesn't make it financially viable. For example you're paying £300pm and the service is due in the last month of your contact that last month is costing you £600. You could get a lot of taxis for that money ;-). You can normally end a lease a little early with little to no penalty.

Yep £300 for an oil service is a rip off. Might be worth asking the lease company if you can take it to an independent. My Mitsubishi lease didn't mind as long as the exact same process was followed.

Yes that’s what I intend to do anyway.I imagine an independent BMW specialist would do it for sub £200.

It was an 18month deal and I’m now into the informal extension. If service was cheap enough I would’ve kept it for another 6 months or so

Got my list of damages back today.
OS F/Bumper Local Paint £89.70
Wheel NSR Repair (Alloy Polished) £109.25
Wheel NSF Repair (Alloy Polished) £109.25
Total: £308.20
They're all fair cop, it's damage I knew about. Expected worse for the front bumper, plus I'd budgeted to go over the mileage but given COVID I ended up being under.
How long from the car being taken back we’re these charges sent through? I’ve not heard anything and been around 10 working days. OS F/Bumper Local Paint £89.70

Same, received the inspection report and charges very soon after returning the car. Probably within a week. The email stated an invoice will follow.
... However, more than a month later I still havent received the invoice.
I would've thought most businesses would be invoicing at least weekly for cashflow reasons. Even if they were doing it at month-end I'd have had it by now. I realise they could be running short staffed but assume businesses would keep people in the accounts receivable team!?

I have just had my inspection ahead of collection tomorrow. 4 scuffed wheels and a bumper scratch. I found the wheels impossible not to kerb! Even when it self parked, the car has hit the kerb before.
The guy was very friendly, I told him that I am going to dispute the charges, which he was positive about and made a note of on his tablet. I will have to work on the basis for my appeal.
He said that ordinarily there is a bigger delay between inspection and collection, during which time things can be put right, so finds the current situation a bit unfair.

On what grounds will you be disputing the charges? The guy was very friendly, I told him that I am going to dispute the charges, which he was positive about and made a note of on his tablet. I will have to work on the basis for my appeal.

The issue might be if they’ve had other cars returned with similar mileage but no or significantly less kerbing.

The self parking has led to the wheels hitting the kerbs on a number of occasions. If I’m honest, I could count with one hand where I’ve parallel parked myself. The issue might be if they’ve had other cars returned with similar mileage but no or significantly less kerbing.
I live in London and think that there might be less space to park, leading to tighter spaces. The wheels seem to extend beyond the tyre, making scratching an inevitability.
If I go to the small claims, I won’t be liable for their costs and can hopefully get information from them as to what % either come back with charges or else have been refurbished elsewhere. If it’s above 50% then I’d argue that the restriction isn’t fit for purpose.
I’m on furlough and have all the time in the world to fight this.

Having been collected, the car is now in Thurleigh airfield in Bedfordshire.
Haha, did you keep the BMW app on your phone too? I kept it for a couple of days, saw where they'd driven it to. Was tempted to unlock it remotely and start flashing the headlights but I thought better of it :-)sdpoo said:

What’s interesting is that it says 3% battery and zero petrol range remaining. Also, the doors are showing as unlocked without any intervention from me.
I guess I should just delete the app. The car is gone, no point in wasting my time on it.

Out of interest what are you replacing it with?
I've got a 2010 Focus 1.8 Zetec with 68k miles for £2k. I had been driving to work pre Covid. I was also using the car to take the kids to school and was able to charge it at work. None of that is true any more so paying £250 per month doesn't seem worth it.
I'll wait until the Focus does its next MOT and sell it on with twelve months test, hopefully for the same £2k. Then look for another good lease deal.

I've also taken a break from leasing. Regardless of Covid, I've leased for about 8 years now which is a pretty penny I'm sure and think it's time to tighten my belt a little. Thought I'd dabble in a used car again although dreading reliability issues.I had been driving to work pre Covid. I've not bought anything yet as I'm stuck working from home at the moment. Using the wife's tiguan when necessary. Looking for a reliable automatic estate (maybe a late Volvo V70 or a circa 2016 BMW 520d SE touring).
I also de-registered my car via the app so that the next poor soul who buys it might stand a chance at registering it without too much hassle.
Still not had an invoice from Total Motion. Must be over 6 weeks since they collected the car so I'm thinking they're not bothering with minor return costs during covid maybe? I'd argue I wasn't there when the inspection was done and I don't think the report actually has photos of the wheels (or at least none close up that I can remember).
I have bought a hardwire dashcam kit, a rear reverse sensor kit, some polish, new wheel centre caps, upholstery shampoo, oil, oil filter, air filter, sparks for the Focus.
I think the economics of leasing might not add up, but I am looking forward to getting my hands dirty again. I have been leasing since 2015, a C4 Picasso, a Skoda Yeti and then the 225xe.
One other thing I am looking forward to owning a car for, I had a parking ticket, was sure it shouldn't have been given, went to Consumer Action Group forum who agreed with me. Appealed, my council told me that it stood and I would have to go to an adjudicator. The only way to do that is to allow the PCN to elapse and challenge when the next fine came in. Total Motion told me that if the fine went to them, they would pay it and put an admin charge on top, not letting me go to adjudication. So I was unable to properly challenge an incorrectly issued parking charge.
I might not even go back to leasing come next year.

Also, considering purchasing my next vehicle instead. Been leasing since 2016 (2nd car now). yes it's saved me some hassle as i was often under the bonnet of my own car.
I've arranged an inspection with TechInspect, who do it on behalf of TotalMotion for Monday.
I actually intend to hand it back in mid August but may hand back sooner
They're very flexible. Only need 48 hour notice for collection (not sure if TM would be happy about that).
Also, I've found a local alloy repair in Bury near, Manchester, that will do them for £65/wheel.
