I’m sure this is a stupid question but would a BMW i8 charging unit be compatible with the I Pace?

I already have the I8 unit and have no experience of charging anything else!

Looks like some amazing deals on the I Pace. I was looking at one today. Nice!

Thanks.
Yes, both a type 2
Yes as said - but if your i8 charging unit (do you mean wall charger?) is only 3.5kw or 16A (same thing in practice) then you may want to upgrade it to a 7kw or 32A one. At 3.5kw it would be pretty slow at charging, as a guide a Tesla would only add about 10 miles of range at that rate for every hour plugged in and I imagine the ipace would be very similar.

If you mean plug in charger, I'm pretty sure Jag will give you one but that would be slower still.

Think I may have missed the 1+400 deals. However I was quoted 3+474 for 8k p.a. On Friday, so will see if it is still available tomorrow and have a play with the mileage’s. Excess was quite steep @ 30p.

I was told the offer closes at 5pm on Monday. I assume that means finance approved and order placed by then.

Fingers crossed once they start delivering all these they will have done a few software updates and it will be a better car already with more options added a la Tesla.

Fyi, I happened to speak with Fleetprices today. In case anyone is interested, whilst the current offer has closed, they said it might open back up again next quarter. Whether it would be at exactly the same price isn't yet known.

I appreciate that this is an expensive motor, but how/why is £7200 over 18 months with nothing to show for it at the end classed as a good idea?

Because you had use of the vehicle over that time and gained from its utility.

Do you use the same argument when you go on holiday? After all, when you stay in a hotel, you don't get to own the room ...

In terms of the deal on this particular car, if you were to buy an I-pace with your own money, I think the likely deprecation would be circa £15k. Based on that comparison, it is a good deal.

Yup at best case IMHO 15% depreciation over 18mo and worst case maybe more like 25%.
The lease is very likely to be cheaper than the depreciation. As such its the cheapest way to drive this car for 18mo.
IMHO.

And on top of that, because it's electric, it's cheap as chips to run for that time too - and if you live in London no congestion charge, some other cities free parking, charging etc.

I can see this making sense if you earn plenty and have money to throw away I suppose, but you'd have to be earning a crap load to be able to lose £7k every 18 months.

Its all about priorities I guess. I think I'm on the wrong forum smile

I agree it isn't bangernomics, and you could spend a lot less if you bought a much older car.

But you could buy a new Fiesta and it would cost maybe £4k over 18 months in depreciation. So it isn't that much extra money to get a modern electric car with good performance.

This is a car forum, where people like cars, enjoy nice cars and don’t mind spending money on nice cars. It’s not the money saving expert forum rofl

People still spend thousands on beer and fags and only have lung cancer and a huge belly to show for it, why not spend spare cash on renting a car that you probably wouldn’t want to buy outright?

So we have just come back from an hour or so with a first edition I-PACE. Unfortunately the salesman was double booked so we had to go out unsupervised 😁

The car was was a FE with 22” wheels so hardly representative of a S on 18”s and steel suspension. But.....

The drive train is immense, I am not a powerfully built director, hence I have only had hot(ish) cars thus far.... 330d (not mapped), 2.7 Cayman, MKiv R32. But the I-PACE felt like the millennium falcon in comparison. I have not driven a P100d, but i suspect that the I-PACE comes close. The sheer linearity of the acceleration at any speed is breath taking (and hilarious).

The air suspension (and ride) was really good given the wheel size and was less crashy even that my current golf GTE. If the ride on 18”s and steel is 80% of this, then I will be a very happy boy.

It was really quiet at motorway speeds and the high end meridian system was superb.

The adaptive cruise worked as well as it does in the golf, so it felt pretty normal to me.

We left the dealer on 53 range (why would you not charge it for a test drive?) and returned after 51miles of pooling about (because of the fear of running out of juice) and returned with 19 miles.

So I am 💯 percent convinced that I have done the right thing. Yes the s is missing a lot that the FE etc have (for me mainly adaptive cruise). But the interior is a fantastic place to be (the infotainment was not as ‘laggy’ as reviews would have you believe (CarPlay worked as well as it always does).

Yes I could have leased a xc40 or something similar for similar money a month, but the I-PACE is in a different league all together.......

Roll on April (ish). Interesting the salesman said that they had not delivered a single one to a customer yet (delays with fancy headlights and the black pack on the FE).

The only thing.......

The lack of ICE leads me to feel that it was a bit soulless........... we were sat behind a panamera turbo on the way to the dealers.... oh the noise....

I am sure I will get used to the lack of ice.

Welcome to the future.....

And of course, the S has exactly the same drivetrain, only it's lugging around slightly less weight. Personally, I think the SE spec is just about right. I'd happily have one of I could afford it. Maybe in a couple of years.

Surely the VAT would be more than £7200 if you bought it outright?
