Once you get the EV bug from the i8 you can try to convince the rest of the family should be allowed to enjoy the EV+door experience too .

I know your trying to be sensible by going for a used Coupe, but the newer Roadster does look fab!! Interms of sheer occasion, am not sure your there is anything better......Plus with the roof off its much easier to get in, so the Roadster would be more 'practical' choice .
