I've collected my I3.
The process was pretty straightforward apart from the fact that the app crashed and I had to turn my phone off and on.

The vehicle is brand new, under 200 miles on the clock and you can register with BMW connected.

Nice. Whereabouts did you collect from if you don't mind me asking? 19 plate I assume?

A Sainsbury car park in Fallowfield. There was another one there at the same time.

It's a 19 plate and I get the impression it's only been driven to be delivered.

Obviously I've not driven it much but first impressions of the I3 are incredibly positive.

Congrats! The pickup locations seem a bit random, but hey you've got the car ok.

Have you done anything about the £1000 excess or are you just going to see how it goes?

They really need a pickup location in Edinburgh, Newcastle or Darlington to serve the north.

I work in insurance and actually distribute an excess product that would cover it but I am 99% certain it's not what the underwriter intends. I just haven't had chance to talk to him properly.

There is also a bit of a okay on my car insurance as well

Is it classed as renting the vehicle? If so can you not get insurance against your excess like you would with short term hire? You can get policies for <£100 / yr.

A few people on the SpeakEV forum have been looking into it but as you say it sortof falls outside the usual hire coverage because it's a monthly contract that auto-renews, not a policy for a fixed period.

That being said apparently a guy on YouTube managed to get a custom 6 month contract from Evezy so he could avail himself of the ELEV grant early. Don't know how that works given I thought you had to have owned the car for that long.

Yes it is and the agreement seems to be a series of monthly ones.
However the truth is back to back and in effect a hire over a long period. So technically ok but not really what car hire excess cover is intended to cover.

At under a hundred quid the maths don't stack up for the underwriter.

I have to say I haven't looked at it properly and need a geek in the office to work it out.

You do not need to own the car for any length to get the grant as far as I know. You can even get it if you have a lease. I think it is EVEZY that are saying they will only provide proof of stewardship of the car if you commit to 6 months.

If you buy a car you can get the grant before taking delivery. You could even sell the car after a week and still have the charger.

Sounds great - hoping mine is the similarly new. Out of interest, how much charge did it have in it when picked up?

Interested in the grant this as would be happy to commit to a 6 month contract on the i3 to save the £500 on the podpoint cost, especially when considering adding the iPace in the next few weeks. I don't plan to home charge all that much with free fast charging locally but for £350 I'd be tempted just as a backup.

Mine had about 120 miles (75%) charge on collection. The BMW connected app is great BTW, been using the pre-heating function most days for the past fortnight.

80 something.

Looks like it was driven up from Birmingham and charged in Manchester then dropped off.

There is a charging history in the menus somewhere.

Just locked the car and flashed the lights from the kitchen. The kids weren't as impressed as I thought they would be.

Getting on okay with the app and no key so far then?

Are you just charging at home via standard 3 pin plug? That's what I'll be doing for now and then maybe commit to 6 months to get the charge point grant.

Do they do diligence on the charging installation?

Once my usage settles down i don't think I am going to need one anyway.

As far as I can tell, the grant just requires evidence of ownership or a lease for at least 6 months.

75-80% charge upon pick up will work well for me - just planning out a route using https://abetterrouteplanner.com
