Downside to no home charging is the car and battery will be cold and unconditioned in the morning
This is one of the biggest issues, but I think it could work with careful management and the charging infrastructure is only going to get better over time.

Long range does 270 miles at 80mph (321 at 70mph).

Here is the 'real world' range chart.

I'd expect it will still do 200+ even in freezing conditions.

As the others mention, check out charging at or near work. Rapid charging every single day will soon get tiresome, especially as you're already likely spend 2 or 3 hours every day just driving.

Maybe rent or do a short term lease before taking the plunge to see how the charging works out.

Other option is to check out charging options near home. From experience though even something ten minutes work from your flat would also get pretty tiresome if that's all you can use.

there must have been some major traffic issue last night in SE London as waze took me down 10 miles of single track country lanes to avoid what ever was going on.

It was the first chance i have used full beam on an unlit road and I must say the lights are really impressive

Reversing however down a dark twisty road is a bloody nightmare, you cant see anything out of the rear window and have to rely on the reversing camera, fortunately I had wiped the road grim of it before i left. Merc's 2 sets of lines on the reversing camera (wheel steer and where the car is going to go) is far better than the single set of lines on the tesla and makes it much easier to reverse using the camera.

RHD version. Some UK owners are complaining it's not bright enough, but I think it's just that you have to use the camera because rear vision is limited.

I must admit, the reversing light is useless. Granted, it's got the reversing camera, but I'd like to be able to use my mirrors too.

Presumably it could be changed for an LED? A brighter one?

It's LED already however I was parked behind the MIL the other day when we both were about to drive off at night and the (2) reversing lights on her T-ROC as so much brighter, I actually had to squint, hers has 2 rather big LEDs on either side, the Model 3 has a I think 4 tiny LEDS on one side only, so much better illumination on her car it must be said.

I'm currently at South Mimms and it looks like the charging area is full. Is this a regular occurrence?

Its what happens when you double the number of cars on the road in a few months and don't make adjustments to the infrastructure.

We're also getting service lead times of up to 2 months and with heaters failing again, some people are being left with no heater for a chunk of the winter and last I heard, Tesla don't consider a loaner is needed .

Not that I’m aware of.
There are many more options springing up though.
