For those who are running it as a company car please ensure that you are paying tax at the correct rate.

For G20 cars registered pre April 2020 the HMRC use a different rate calculation method than they do for post April cars.

https://www.nextgreencar.com/company-car-tax/bik-r...

In Summary if your car has an electric range of 41 miles or greater you will only pay 8% BIK . Now the confusion comes as BMW generally quoted 37 miles range for this model which puts it at 12% BIK. HOWEVER...and this is important..IF you request the European certificate of Conformity from BMW for your car it may state the electric range as 66km ( 41 miles ).

Whether it does or not is dependant on weight and wheel size.. so loading up on options can hit you in the pocket big time.

It is individual car specific. You need to give them the VIN number to find out , so dont wast time as i did trawling the internet for reliable info you can go to your wages department with.

I have a 330 e msport with no added options , a confirmed 41 mile range on the COC and an 8% BIK rate. For a 40% tax payer that means a deduction of £104 at the wage slip for this model rather than £156.30 for a 12% BIK rate vehicle. £600 per annum in your pocket.

I believe ( but cannot be 100% sure ) that adding the Plus pack puts you in the 12% BIK range.

Cars registered after April 2020 use a different method of calculation but my recommendation to all is ask for the COC.

BTW I have non adaptive suspension and find the ride good. The tyre pressures make quite a remarkable difference. The recommended range is from about 34 psi up to 45psi...45 psi is pretty firm.

Who at BMW do you contact for this certificate?

For those of you having lived with these since new, how well do you think they will hold up over time?

In other words: would you buy them for yourself second hand to run for another 6-8 years?

I'm always skeptical about hybrids since they combine the complexity and maintenance of both an ICE and an EV. I can see Toyota getting that to work reasonably, but the Germans? They scream money pit to me after they are out of warranty, but more and more will pop up second hand so they might be tempting.

Email eccoc@bmw.co.uk

You’ll be asked to fill in a form and prove ownership. I’m also on 8% for my standard M-Sport 330e

Perfect thanks, I'll send over the VIN and see what they come back with. I don't own the car though as it's a company car.

The 330d did 120k or so for us with only both horns failing - so far the 330e has been perfect admittedly our mileage is just over 10k and would probably heading towards 20k if it wasn't for Covid but nothing is making me think twice about it, if she lost the company car I'd have no problem getting one of these pre-reg or ex demo as they are great value already!
During lockdown I've found it to be the perfect car as our trips have been mainly local, apart from some trips to work or delivering food to vulnerable family so it's been great to use the Electric for all our trips....hell of a difference between ghostly moving off the drive in the 330e compared to the cold start up of the M3 I've recently collected though eeklaugh

Had to read that twice, as I thought you meant a Model 3 biggrin

Good to hear, at the moment I think hybrids are great in theory as you mention. Almost all driving electric, but the convenience of petrol station infrastructure.

For us living in North Wales I think personally having a Hybrid made sense, even forgetting the cost saving in BIK - there's not an abundance of charging points and obvious limitations of home charging unless you can go 3 phase.

Thanks all, I emailed two days ago, they asked me why I wanted it and today I've received the certificate. Now I need to find out whether I'm paying 8% or 12%.

Also can anyone point me in the right direction of where I'm meant to be looking on the certificate to confirm whether my car attracts the lower or higher rate of tax.

The certificate should give an electric only range in km which is based on the NEDC calculation for cars registered before April 2020. The 8% tax band is for 40+ miles electric only range so the km range needs to be converted to miles and rounded up to the nearest whole number. The upshot is that 63km+ electric range will see you in the 8% tax band

Thanks, mine was delivered in December 2019 and the figures on the certificate are as follows

Electric range - 66 km

So presume I'm well into the 8% bracket

I had the F30 330e and although it was problem-free over 3yrs and 45k miles, the complexity of the hybrid system combined with the high cost of replacement parts means a used purchase would be quite risky. Some dealers are unable to service them too.

This was the response from one of our in house tax accountants. My car is a December 2019 so is the below correct?

“There are new emission standards that were introduced from 6 April 2020 (WLTP), and these apply to cars registered on or after 6 April 2020. As the new rules, all cars registered on or before 5 April 2020, will have emission standards as per old rules (NEDC) – more details here

I had a look at the legislation and it clarifies that for the purpose of determining the car’s CO2 emissions figure in a case where the car is first registered before 6 April 2020 WLTP vehicles test procedures values specified in the EC certificate of conformity should be ignored.

The CO2 figures are provided by Alphabet, and if you believe these should be updated we may need to check with them if the above applies in your case.”

Has anyone got one of the new touring 330e’s yet, it’s finally available (I think) I’m considering getting rid of my previous gem 330e and the M4 and just going to one car, it being the 330e touring, it’s a good looking thing.

If you like Toyotas hybrid system you will be happy with BMWs, it’s the same, BMW trades diesel tech with Toyota for the hybrid tech, they got the better deal I think.
I’ve had no issues with mine and I’ll be looking for another one next too, the biggest problem you will have with the car is the dealer, I’m still looking for one that’s not a 🤬

I'm new to this EV stuff and just catching up the thread. My 330e was registered June, will I need a CoC? I updated HMRC as my previous company car was a 2018 Golf GTI Performance and my tax code has been updated but I put 37-mile range in.

Might be worth waiting for the new 545e Touring? A friend has just got the X5 45e and having the six-cylinder and much larger battery could be very appealing in the facelift 5.

Picking up my new car tomorrow; originally ordered February 2nd so to say I'm excited is an understatement...

330e M Sport
Portimao Blue
Oyster Leather
Tech Pack
Comfort Pack
Premium Pack

Pre-virus, I was doing 20,000 per year. Now I work from home and do probably 5k per year. The car meanwhile was ordered on a 20k/PA lease, so somebody will be happy with the residuals after the 3 years is up I reckon!
