The battery is small because they are being conservative with their first vehicle and first experience of the technology, and because they wanted the packs to be made in Japan.

The packs are made by Panasonic, the same as Tesla ones but at a different factory.

They already downgraded them from their original plan, reducing the available capacity. It's something like 28kWh, meaning there is a 7kWh buffer which is huge. Unlikely to see any premature degradation but doesn't help the range. Charging was originally going to be 80kW but seems to have been limited to about 45kW.
Hopefully they let owners have some of that 7kWh buffer. Maybe once Honda have a certain amount of data from the field, and perhaps find the battery life is OK, they’ll unlock a bit.

My other half had her's delivered on Friday.

It's a little larger than appears in pictures, but still a small car. It's got some of that EV acceleration urge at lower speeds, but isn't ballistic. Turning circle as per the reviews makes you laugh it's so tight. Inside is lovely. A really nice ambience that makes it feel premium, but without every surface having to be squidgy.... things like the blue stitching etc. Outside it looks great too, some subtle but really good looking bits.

The tech onboard is also really good for what is a small runabout, things like auto dipping lights, lane keep, adaptive cruise, 360 parking view, blind spot detection and all those dash screens... and this on what is a small runabout.

I don't live in the city, but the daily normal for my other half is <20 miles, as she works from home, so it's trips to the supermarket, friends or the garden centre type stuff. I wouldn't even say it was that high most of the time. So as she'll borrow my car for longer trips to her parents, it makes a lot of sense.

For those of you that have the luxury of a second car it kind of misses the point. If you are going to pollute by using your petrol or diesel car, why bother with an E anyway?
For me, at least, that's an easy one. It's never been about the eco aspect. I think the characteristics of electric vehicles are more desireable in a small, every day city car, and so that's what I've ordered. It'll be sitting alongside a 6.2l E63 and a Lotus Evora, environmentally friendly I am not hehe

I am with you 100%. I will always have a petrol powered motorcycle to give me the adrenalin rush.

I believe you are getting your E via Mobility, in which case affordability is not so much of an issue. I look forward to seeing how you get on with it and whether it works for you. Good luck.

This is true, I'm not underestimating just how important it is for me to not really be paying the high premium for the Honda E compared to the competitors. Still, even if I had to consider costs (but had the luxury of a second car) I'd be going electric for those reasons, I think they're just a nicer car.

The real issue is the charge speed. When they announced it they said 0-80% in 20 minutes which is an average of 85kW. Great, you may need to stop more often on long trips but the fast charge speed makes up for that. As Bjorn Nyland has shown in his 1000km tests cars with small batteries that charge fast do really well, e.g. the original Ioniq.

Unfortunately they reduced the charge speed before release. The low battery warning is about 15% IIRC and 15-80% takes about 40 minutes.

It's such a shame as the car has active battery cooling and yet charges at the same speed as the old Nissan Leaf. They must have found some issue during testing as they initially announced more speed but then cut it to less than half.

Prices on them are crap at the moment. Back in October there were some decent deals, nothing now.

Screaming out for a decent sized battery. Love the look. Would love them a lot more if i could take one over to the lakes without having to worry about the terrible range irked

Love mine to bits. I don't need the range and find that just making use of fast chargers when I find them around London is more than enough.

I think that these don't need a big battery or better deals, they're for people that want one regardless of price because it's cool, and it'll be a second or third car for cities only anyway.

I'd love to know if Honda ever actually expected to sell that many here, I doubt they did.

Unfortunately, Honda don’t really seem to expect to sell anything in quantity in this county anymore by the looks of things.

Car looks great Alex, I follow you on Instagram and enjoy the updates thumbup

Absolutely love these, at the moment, it's the only electric car that interests me (and the taycan, but I'll not be able to afford one of those) I love the looks of them, and the interior. I've only just purchased the Type R. But seriously considering changing the other half's Astra for one, I'll take mine in Blue!

It seems to be available in Japan in a metallic Red, but not here, which is a shame.

Sad but true, I fear. Still, an NSX is still on the cards for later this year, an all-Honda garage is massively appealing to me biggrin

Oh, on my leglessAlex or LeglessLotus account? Well, I tend to post the same on both anyway. Thank you for the nice words!

New or classic NSX?

I wasn’t aware of the LeglessLotus account so that answers that! Will subscribe to the Lotus one too then!

I'm not sure how "cool" these are.

My brother reported a conversation with his soo to turn 17 daughter, and her description was along the lines of: "it looks like one of those disabled person's cars".

I think she meant an Invacar, and she does have a point:

As a disabled person, I resemble that comment! irkedhehe

'Cool' is always going to be subjective, but I at least think they're cool, and as an entirely anecdotal and not objective observation, I see at least as many if not more people looking at the e as I drive by then I see when I do the same route in the Evora, which is usually a fairly eye-catching car.

Mezzanine, I'm thinking of a new NSX. The auto gearbox in the old one puts me off tbh...

Usually when someone does such a risible comparison of two cars, the response is "I see what you mean, they both got four wheels."

But even that doesn't apply here...

Jeez, some folk have no sense of humour.
