Has anyone had an installation where an external supply cable has been needed between the meter box and the charger unit?
What do you mean by "external supply cable" ? I had to have about 20M of SWA (armoured) cable for mine.Installation seems such a nightmare I’m thinking of cancelling having our builder put the supply cable through the house (it needs to run from one side to the other) while our refurb is being done.
If it was £100 I wouldn’t be bothered but he wants £500 just for placing the cable. It could run around the outside wall if ever needed.

What's the problem? Is this the one with a run right through the house? If it was £100 I wouldn’t be bothered but he wants £500 just for placing the cable. It could run around the outside wall if ever needed.

Firstly that he wants £500 for running a cable through the house (which will be a shell) and secondly that, if it comes to need a charger in a few years the installer may not want to use a cable that someone else installed and / or there’ll be some issue with space where the supply / meter / CU are - it’s an older house so they’re all together in a cupboard in the kitchen.Sheepshanks said:

Ive no bother in using another installed cable as long as it is known and been properly installed. Id fully checked it aswell before using it. this may not want to use excuse is someone trying to skin you.
I think I’m out of luck here, but trying to confirm if a charger install is feasible… Who do I contact for advice, the Council?
I live at #30 and so I have a garage and driveway but not attached to my house, no electricity there. How can I install a charger with #31 in the way? There's a Manhole cover in the path at "X", has a BT logo on it. Is there likely to be electricity to tap into in there, or just phone lines?
Houses are blue, garages yellow, driveways grey.

With number 31's permission then out the front of your house, under their garden, across the grass and emerging near your garage. Would guess the green area near the garages is simply communal land, or highways verge etc, in which case do it quickly and quietly! As long as the neighbours don't complain then nobody will ever know.
To make it worthwhile for number 31, maybe offer to put a cable from their house in the same trench to their garage, and at the very least they can have electric in the garage.

The green grass is public land I guess. I'll check my house deeds.
No31 is open to running cables around his house but his front and back gardens are patio'd, no easy way to bury cables there.
Is the BT Manhole cover a no-go, you think? Where else do people access underground High current cables for "splicing" into?

People don't "splice" into high current cables for a whole host of reasons.... 1) it's illegal
2) it's illegal
and
3) it's illegal.
If you really wanted you could contact your local DNO (eg Western Power, UK Power Networks, SSEN etc) and get them to quote for a new connection. Depending on distance from the road you're probably looking about £5k.

Installers love an install where the cable is already in place!
Just about to pull the trigger and buy direct from Myenergi.
"Zappi type 2 tethered in white". £799.00 (already got a quote from an electrician to supply and install). All in all total under £1200. Not interested in nickel and diming this since the EV will be the daily drive and must not let me down.
Just spoke to the sales person:
(1) 6 weeks lead time
(2) this is a updated version which allows connection directly to your wifi (I assumed that all SMART chargers did that anyway so a little worrying).
So is this a Yes or No?

Seems ok. Lead time seems lengthy. "Zappi type 2 tethered in white". £799.00 (already got a quote from an electrician to supply and install). All in all total under £1200. Not interested in nickel and diming this since the EV will be the daily drive and must not let me down.

It could connect you your wifi before but needed a separate hub to go with it, now it is integrated (like every other charger).
It's a nice unit but quite large, otherwise there's no reason to 'No'.
