Podpoint do use it depending on installer.
I know they actually had it made in the first place.

You only really need it when you use load management but it has been hard to get hold of in the past and as most installs do not need LM most people don't use it. It's a nice product though.

You see what I am continuously told is “2 cables need to be run”. Which I know to be completely untrue. The combined cable can be used, so not sure why installers seem so against it.

EV Ultra is, as you know, two cables, just combined into one. I suspect it is because they have to go to a new supplier and buy it rather than just get the std cabling from their main one. It is also a bit pricey (last time I looked)

Yes it is pricey. I am not being told “that specific cable is quite expensive so it will incur an uplift in installation fee” which we would happily pay.

We are being told…..

“no, we run a separate cable for the adaptive fuse” (third party installer)

“we would not be able to install a single cable” (Andersen direct)

Why are they saying this? Why are they not giving me an option?

Very frustrating.

Toolstation is one of the best value suppliers, and the cables come from Doncaster Cables like many other types of electrical cables. However they only sell a minimum of 25 metres so a big up-front cost

https://www.toolstation.com/search?q=ev-ultra

A long run would probably need the 6mm

Hard to say but they probably just don't want the hassle of doing this. Maybe tell them you'll pay a bit more.

Electricians often prefer to stick to what they know and don't have time/the inclination to look at other products that they may only use/install once.

nono

We have a charger for the 500L in the garage.

We're planning to get a Kia Soul as a runaround. That is, when Kia decide to release them. The Soul will need an outside charger.

I'd prefer something a bit more interesting than a plain old charger if I'm to look at it and use it every day.

Just spoken to a local installer. They do single cable install on any of their chargers including Andersen. Rediculous.

Not an old pump that's been converted, but a replica. Pricey, though.

Thanks for that. It is expensive.

I've found this. Not as pretty. But, half the price...

ETA: It's the same thing! But, my link is from the manufacturer. hehe

It is... and neither INCLUDE the EVSE.
It is just a post to fit your own to!

"The electric vehicle pump is supplied without a charging system on the side as you can select the charging system you would like and also you can enjoy the benefit of the grants available for fitting electric vehicle charging systems."

That is a bit silly in terms of pricing.

EV Ultra is widely used by installers (not just PodPoint installers).
Be aware that if a separate CAT5e cable is installed then it’ll need to be suitable for use outside and exposure to UV.

If an installer insists they only install separate cables then I’d question their experience and look elsewhere.
Yesss Electrical Wholesale are the cheapest for EV Ultra but there are a few other similar options becoming available.
For EV Ultra there are armoured, non-armoured, data pair and CAT5e versions in a variety of sizes so cost isn’t as bad as the headline figures would make you believe. Just pick the correct size for the application.
Regarding just getting the cable installed, go direct to a local EV installer and they’ll be happy to just install the wiring for you.

Hi all I've got a 530e coming tomorrow it only has a 9kw battery which can apparently be charged from a normal plug socket in around 4 hours.

Am I right in thinking there's no point in spending the money on a proper charging point with that being the case?

9Kw?

t must be a mid hybrid or similar with that small a battery. I wouldn't bother getting a dedicated point for that. BUT, if you wanted to go full EV in the future, prices will only go up, so it might be worth considering.
