- wondering what charging point will be best to get? This is very big market and quite confusing! Car will be arriving in September so have sometime but wish to get on this as don't think want to to spend 7 hours charging it via 3pin plug. Would like the charging point to be future proof as change cars.

The LR website has 2 recommended PodPoint and BP CHARGEMASTER.
Its really up to you. Mostly they are very similar but look different. Stick with the most popular ones advertised online as a rough guide and decide which you like the look of.

Finally taking the plunge to go for a hybrid car - less miles to do now while working at home and think a petrol hybrid is a good first step before move to full EV adoption in few years.
Great, finally seen the light!

facepalm
Lol thanks for the reply - sorry mate I know LR is the choice for everyone..

Is there anything specific that causes your facepalm? I hope this is all very successful for 2 years and I can go for full EV with something like iPace or e-Tron!

Cool thanks for replying thinking to go for the PodPoint most likely! What confuses me is that if I go for tethered is what if next car is a different charger i.e type 1 or 2. How much more will that cost to change?

Ok. almost every car uses Type 2 now so you shouldn't have an issue. The industry has gone through the VHS/Betamax phase. The charger will work for every car too. Changing chargers will be expensive (relatively).

Yes, most installers cram their sites with technical info etc and it just confuses the hell out of people who just want to know the basics and get one installed.

As we look to order an iPace this has been a really interesting thread.

Unfortunately we don't have any 'official' off street parking so are unable to qualify for a grant but we do have guaranteed access to the rear of the house.

What is the best way to have a quality install carried out?

Ideally I'd like to have it coinciding with running power to the shed from the consumer unit at the front of the house.

Based in Harrogate if anyone has recommendations.
Not sure if you have moved forwards with this. I have been in contact with Utley Electrical who will be installing a Rolec charger at my house in Harrogate soon (there is a lead time on the charger being produced). So far they seem very professional and the quote was pretty much the sort of money I expected...

Does anyone have any idea on lead times for installs?

Not getting my EV until mid September, so would ideally look to get installed early that month.

Don't fancy paying the cost until August ideally.

Tbh, if that information is too technical for you, you should get someone to install it for you.

Most of it boils down to how many phases you have and how much amps there are on each phase.

Definitely will be getting fitted. No chance I am blowing up my house wiring lol
I think will be PodPoint for now just because there website seems to make the most sense!

As hepy asked in his last post before this is there usually a long lead time for fitting? I need to get sorted by September too.

I’m going with the EO Mini Pro purely based on the discreet size of the non- tethered version for my Tesla 3.

I ordered my Podpoint on 5th September last and it was installed about two weeks later.

It varies, we installed our customers' chargers quickly as demand has dropped (surprise) but larger organisations closed down. Everyone is different.

OLEV dropped the subsidy from £500 to £350 in April and with BREXIT (remember that?) and the money spent on furloughing who is to say whether they pull the plug completely between now and August. If you can afford one now, I'd recommend getting it installed ASAP.

I meant that they fill their sites with a lot of blurb and content to make themselves look impressive when people just want a clear, simple site to tell them what they need to know and what they don't. Most are very poor, even from larger companies.

Thanks for the reply Robbie.

Had actually been in contact with Adam and I agree, he comes across very professional.

Our installation is somewhat tricky so we're leaving it for now, my wife will have easy access to charging at work so the plan is to see how that works out for.

Failing that we're not too far from the chargers at the council if it all goes to st!

Not sure where else to put this. As above was expecting to get a Rolec charger fitted. Rolec initially sent a charger with numbers not matching the numbers on the certificate required for the government grant. Whilst waiting for that to get sorted the fitters have stopped fitting Rolec: too many RCD failures. Then the final straw was Rolec not paying for their timer to go round sorting out the poor quality control from Rolec!

So will not get an Easee charger fitted. Seems a better unit with more capability. Shame we are unlikely to ever have 3 phase power to really take advantage

Just on that, didn't they announce that they were going to introduce 3 phase charging for quicker home charging in the i pace?

Well homes don't have 3 phase electricity to begin with. They may have a quicker on board charger to convert from AC to DC...

It's rare, lucky to have in a gas-free future.
