I give the OHME e pod smart charger my vote. Been faultless so far and very easy to use. Un tethered so looks really discreet.

Fitted a separate hook for our wallbox as I didn't like how the weight of the cable was moving the unit.

For 3 years the female connector has been falling out of the white holder. Today I realised the rain/dust cover that goes on it needs to be removed so it can slot in correctly, doh!

Apart from that making me feel silly no complaints with it so far

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.....it's just a cover, I won't get too upset by your views!
Like I say - just makes it less obvious there is an EV chargepoint under it....
+1

My homemade cover:

Note that EV chargers are not designed to have covers. If damp gets into it and cannot disperse, it can affect the electronics.

Can't say that has had any affect on me, although obviously it would have if I had problems at the time. I signed up to Octopus IO in February this year and it works faultlessly with my Model 3.

I've just switched an order from an Indra to an Ohme as it seems to have better reviews and support.

What puts me off about Ohme is the lack of a cable tidy solution.

Question on installation, my understanding was the EV charger connects to the consumer unit. But OVO are saying the Ohme charger connects to the meter.

Which is it?

My installer told me they'll find a small consumer unit on the meter itself (on the external wall of the property) and connect the Ohme wallbox to that.

I guess it depends on the layout of your property and whether the Ohme will be closer to your meter or existing consumer unit.

BTW, I suggest shopping around as the quote I got from Ovo was £96 more than the company I've gone with and a lead time quoted as 3-4 weeks instead of 1-2.

My Ohme (tethered) has a cable tidy and plug receptacle.

Mine has a separate RCD switch. To me in principle it is little different from a cooker supply.

I prefer it to the consumer unit as that is only 1m meter away rather than 10m!

It will depend on the cable capacity that feeds the consumer unit. It maybe ok but if it’s borderline the installer may insist on a cable back to your meter point. I thinks it’s about an additional 30amp or so.

The guy who installed mine would only do it with a separate feed to it's own breaker, even though I've already got 2 CUs with space in each.

I suspect that there are some crossed wires (no pun) here.
It won't connect to the meter, but may be connected near the meter.

It (the EVSE) has to be connected to a consumer unit even though this may be one with a single breaker.
Don't accept a new CU inside your meter box. It isn't allowed by the DNO, though I accept it can be safe and you may well get away with it - but the facts remain it is the wrong way to do it.

I see your CU is 9-11m from your meter... that sounds odd as tails are supposed to be no more than 3m. Maybe you have a sub-main. Is there a switched/fused connection AFTER the meter?

It sounds like connecting at the meter (ideally after an isolator) via Henley blocks, running new tails to the new CU may work.
It does become a bit of a nightmare when the meter enclosure is close, but the CU is far away - though a very unusual arrangement.

Any pictures that might make it clearer?

That looks nice and neat.
Hidden supply cable plus non-tethered so it doesn't look like a hose pipe.

Each to their own, but I don't understand the enthusiasm for the tethered variety. As you say, you can take your cable with you - maybe to use when you are away from home too. If you like the convenience of tethered, then just leave the cable plugged in at the charger end - unless I am missing something.

Yes I had a new consumer unit fitted in the detached double garage as the old on was 18 years old. I think they insisted on a 40 Amp fuse in it. Cable attached to internal side of wall and over top of garage doors then straight through to the unit. I also have set the unit so that after it initially connects the lights go out so as not to glow like a Christmas tree all night attracting unwanted eyes. I didn’t want a stupid looking cable hanging on the wall. They had wanted to put a micro fuse box in the meter box and run cable or mount it on the front wall of the house. I stopped that though as I think it’s the lazy solution.
