Have just set the ball rolling to get a charger installed for EV arriving at end of year.

Specifically I would be interested to get recommendations for installers that would work in Inverness area.

Have just received my first quote from a Scottish company Jorro for what I think is a standard installation of an EO mini pro 7.2kw unit for £1270 less the various grants (total £800). Still seems very expensive and this is backed up by another quote from same company to change the type 1 cable I have at another property for a type 2 and that comes to £430.

The full install might be expensive because of where it is but the cable change is central Scotland.

So would be interested to hear anyone who has used eg podpoint or charge master or others outwith the central belt .

I think the main install will be “standard” albeit the charger will go on garage wall.

The supply to the garage comes off the main consumer unit on a circuit marked as 40 A capacity. In the garage there is a small consumer unit feeding lights, sockets, wall heaters. I really don’t mind disconnecting everything but the lights if necessary as the heaters/sockets are never used.

Grateful for any advice.

We're about as far from you as we could be but their pricing seems a little on the high side if you don't need a mini CU or longer cable etc. I'm not sure that you'll want no light/sockets in your garage long term though. Maybe see if they can do something so you get both.

The key challenge all installers face is that they have to deal with OLEV and that means 16 pages of forms, photos etc for every customer and then 4+ weeks before they get payment. By the time you factor in the survey, consumer units which are often obsolete, earth spikes, widely varying installs, etc. it does make it quite costly (in terms of time) to do these.

EDIT: It says £199 here. I know it says 'from' but that's a big leap and you get an extra £300 off in Scotland too: https://www.jorro.co.uk/domestic-pricing/#
