Been given a delivery date on the E-Tron of 5th December so as my first electric vehicle I need to get charging sorted

The ideal position for the charger is around 20 metres from my house, across an unadorned road (as I have a small back garden directly attached to the house, and then a much larger one the other side of the road).

The larger garden has parking for 4 vehicles, but obviously will involve digging the road up and making good. The easy option is to put the charger in the wall at the end if the small garden but that means having to park the car there each night.

I've looked at various chargers but audi seem to recommend 'pod point'. Will they do the complete installation, including the road works ? If not, does anyone know s company that would as would prefer a single contractor doing everything for warranty reasons.

For an install like this I doubt you’ll get a good deal from one of the national volume installers - they don’t usually bury cables.

The might agree to fit a unit to an appropriately sized armored cable installed by others.

Appreciate I could split the installation, but just think that may lead to warranty issues if there was ever a problem, hence the preference for a single contractor.

Ask the charging point company what size cable they need laying and see if they're happy for you to do that bit. As long as they have a connection between the main fuse location and the charger I can't see why it would be a problem.

Saying that, they must have to deal with these issues regularly so ask them directly.

Running a swa cable in a trench isn't rocket science though, just need to go down about 150mm. Blind the trench bottom with pea gravel, cable on top of that, warning tape on top of cable more pea shingle on top, back fill and compact then finish with some cold pour tarmac.

It’s just a cable, as long as it’s the right type it won’t matter who fit it

Contact POD Point, they'll be able to arrange the whole installation, even with groundworks.

Though if you're going across a public roadway it may get rather expensive.
