Isn't it the case that if you don't upgrade the MCU, the screen which is essential for the car to be used will stop working well within the cars useful lifespan?
There are two things available. There’s now an 8 year warranty or if outside that on mileage. it’s a few hundred for a new memory board but functionally it’s the same. This is what they may be forced to do more proactively as part of a recall. The other option is a wholesale upgrade to the new higher performance version of the screen with extra features which was over £2k but has just come down, and this will also address the problem as it’s not afflicted the same way. Surely this is fantastic news for consumers? I suspect its also an attempt by Tesla to avoid any MCU1 recall, which they should just get on with and do.
This.Tbh at 1300 it seems like a good deal. I remember about a decade ago that higher end aftermarket pioneer double din was not far off that price.
Getting an "upgrade" to a >5" screen in a "premium" car is often more expensive.
But, in the end indeed I guess they are tempting customers to do this to get a bit of money instead of having to do the obligated recall.
Well Nancy Pelosi is betting that TSLA shares will be >$500 on 18 March 2022

So she could sell at anytime, or wait for the best price. How much profit is there in this trade out of interest?I now have 33 Tesla shares, been buying since July but no spare cash to buy any more. Also have Nio, done well on those so far.

Right or wrong, here's a more measured view on the stock price.

Looks like Dog Mode, Fart Mode and Joe Mode weren't enough for this idiot

Surprisingly the comments are turned off on the youtube video and his disclaimer that it was carried out on a closed circuit is clearly false.

Can't wait for the full self driving (sort of) release this month so more morons can endanger other road users.

I don't know what I would trust more, the Autopilot or the 9 year old.

Yes, blame the technology. It's not like young kids with big powerful cars were doing anything dangerous. But now Tesla brings out autopilot and they're endangering people with it!

Nope, again I said morons. Not blaming the tech, just the few morons who abuse it. We've already seen several people film themselves defeating the safety systems by jamming and orange or apple or such into the steering wheel. It's inevitable one this Full Self Driving beta is released to the rest of the owner this month it will get abused. It's not like young kids with big powerful cars were doing anything dangerous. I'll sit back and wait for the inevitable.
Lets not forget this story, where every Tesla fan jumped on to heaping the blame on the victim rather than questioning the technology.

Complaining about this seems a lot like complaining about the latest 500bhp RWD car that gets released.Morons will do stupid st with it, so we should ban it?
That said, I do agree that it -should- be safe. But your initial post points to a tik tok fan abusing a system in a way that is downright dangerous.
It's like showing a guy drifting across a busy intersection to advocate for not selling powerful RWD cars.
That's a lot different than a guy who was using it as intended and it crashing him.
The Apple guy was indeed a story pointing out the system is far from flawless and does question whether they should release it to the public.

Grant Shapps team have been briefing the press, apparently he is very keen for the UK to be supportive of self driving.First step, possible from this summer, will be to allow cars to self drive on the motorway, not at 70 but whenever traffic is crawling or low speeds are in force. With drivers allowed to watch TV or whatever as car drives itself.
I’m not complaining, just commenting. If someone is already willing to film themselves bedding down in the back of a car on a highway while the car is on cruise control because they thinks it’s cool, I’m pretty sure someone will try and outdo them when the fsd beta is released to the cars this month.
It’s inevitable, hopefully they’ll make use of the internal camera to stop this abuse but I haven’t seen any evidence yet that they will.

That would need level 5 autonomy to be safe, ie not steering wheel or pedals. Anyone producing anything level 5 yet?
Found the story in question. Government talking to insurance companies so guess liability is on their mind.https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/shapps-steers-b...
There’s was a video a few years back not too dissimilar and the police investigated and I believe banned them. The defence was it was a relatives car and they didn’t know it wasn’t safe. They sometimes do the same for mad car drivers and motorcyclists being filmed pulling massive wheelies down the road and posting on social media. I imagine there’s a reasonable
chance they will get a tap on the door
I think this is another one

Hopefully they just take this guy's license instead of an arms race with stupidity. What your saying is a imho a rabbit hole you don't want to go down. It feels a lot like "people doing donuts" -> Make it impossible to turn off TC -> People pulling the fuse from TC -> make the car go into emergency mode... etc.As said, there's a valid conversation to be had about the safety of Autopilot.
Idiots rigging the system by taping stuff to their steering wheel are not part of that conversation.
Yep, I hope so. I always remember that urban myth from decades ago about someone renting an RV and then on a long section of straight road going into the kitchen area to make a brew. Obviously the RV crashed, driver thought cruise control meant it would drive itself.
This is why we have Caution Hot on the side of coffee cups, caution objects in the mirror may be closer than seems in the wing mirror and other such idiotic warnings.
Liability is a good point, I'm sure Tesla lawyers have covered themselves sufficiently but in the UK at least I believe the driver is always liable currently regardless or whether the car has a wobble with its driver assist systems.
I know the EU has pretty strict laws controlling the self driving stuff hence Tesla features being next to useless there (Summon for example) but now the UK has broken away will we go more towards the US suck it and see approach?
