Interesting steering wheel.
Interesting steering wheel.

2022 delivery in the UK. Apart from the steering wheel I quite like the new interior.
Interior does look better but overall it’s pretty underwhelming. Hard to tell what’s happening with the battery but if you were changing the battery you’d change the structure of the car quite a lot, so why wrap it in the same body shell but with a different bumper? So I suspect the battery is pretty much unchanged and they’re hoping to work out how to package the new cells for the plaid+ which will give the longer range a d extra performance but they haven’t yet worked out howThey’ve done some weird stuff, haptic controls on the half steering wheel for indicators is one. They’re doesn’t seem to be a drive selector anymore and a rotating tablet in the centre.
For a refresh it’s not bad considering how old the underpinnings are. The Model X looks like it just gets an interior change and no more.

The batteries are an interesting one here I think. Looking at the quoted ranges, it seems to me S / X Long Range and Plaid will use 2170 (3 / Y tech) cells - perhaps even the current 18650 cells - whereas S Plaid+ will be the new 4680 cells.
Updates look great overall to me, idiotic steering wheel aside (how can that ever work in the real world?!).

Got to be honest, I'm a dork and have never used a wheel like that, but it does look cool.
Is it practical?
I can't see how it's practical unless it has a 1:1 steering ratio like an F1 car. How would you make a tight turn with a yoke?! The flat-bottomed ones are annoying enough, let alone this thing. Is it practical?

2170 don’t fit in the current car and given the body is so similar if not identical except for the bumper I don’t think they’ve changed anything for now. Agreed things will be different for the plaid+ but I recon that’s some way off. Updates look great overall to me, idiotic steering wheel aside (how can that ever work in the real world?!).

Could be right. For UK everything says 2022 delivery, whereas for the US, Model S Long Range and Plaid say March, Plaid+ late 2021. US Model X Long Range and Plaid say April. They lost $722 per car sold (as an average) meaning that before the enviro credits were factored in they were, yet again, at a $130m loss on the quarter.
It's also pretty notable that they sold 40k more cars in Q4 than Q3 yet their net profit was down $60m.
They are also still talking about the growth the Berlin factory will guarantee but the below graph should be more of a concern on Tesla's ability to secure/benefit from the long term growth of the EV market when you think how few competitors it has realistically competed against this year.
R.E the Model S refresh, its still only early renderings so while items such as the steering wheel grab eyes and headlines its unlikely they will actually make the production model. It's also interesting to see if the car really is 200mph capable and if so how it delivers that on the single gearing setup (unless I missed mention of it having 2 gears now).

Not good results. It’s all about the credits. Lower margins. An accountant would say, no money being made here.
What is this in reference to? I thought the year ended ok for them?Gassing Station | EV and Alternative Fuels | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
