Tesla and Uber Unlikely to Survive (Vol. 2)

More bks, frankly.Yet, as ever, will be lapped up as 'the future' by some which will then not materialise any time soon. Yet will justify the share price doubling again.
Tesla have a stunning charger network, but yet faster accelerating cars we don't actually need and some innovation around packing cells in a battery. How this justifies their ridiculous share price is astounding.
As for the 'it's not a car company', then why don't they offer their code and battery JV to others to take forward and become a true tech company.
Solar City was/is a scam. The boring company - what news have they produced recently?
Space X - hats off to them, but with out NASA stepping in in 2012, that would probably have sunk without a trace (thank goodness it didn't).
I just do not get the hype around Musk.
Time will tell though

Well, it's valued as a tech company. Which means: Waaaaay over valued unless some (ALL) ridiculous claims come in to fruition. In reality, it is indeed still just a car company and unless they change mobility as we know it (not just by shifting the market to EV), it won't hold up.
Edit: In that I mean Tesla will exist. But their share price will be decimated.
Someone on the owners club has found normal steering wheel photos in the website code
Seems more suitable although it’s still got touch sensitive controls on the wheel which have been universally slated as an ergonomic disaster on other cars that have them.
Apparently the car will select drive mode for you when you get in and press the brake depending on what it sees on the cameras. Seem legit.

Anyone else find it odd that they show the tablet with Netflix on it, something you won’t/shouldn’t be using whilst driving, rather than normal car functions e.g satnav.Seems more suitable although it’s still got touch sensitive controls on the wheel which have been universally slated as an ergonomic disaster on other cars that have them.

Tbh everyone hated touch screen phones until apple made the iphone, and I hated touch screens in cars until I got in a Tesla. Not saying they made it work, but touch sensitive controls can also be haptic so we'll see.

In fairness, a couple of the Polestar 2 promo pictures I've seen has the Google circles and "how can I help?" on the screen rather than a sat nav as well. Maybe it makes sense to showcase a feature that not everyone has?NDA said:
Also odd that there's nobody sitting in the driver's seat.
Just weird.
Self driving, right!Just weird.
The worst part about the touch sensitive controls, in my opinion, is that inexplicably both left and right indicators are on the LEFT side of the wheel...
It looks like you'd have to actually lift your hand to press the button with your forefinger to indicate right, on the left hand side of the wheel. Beggars belief.
Also horn as a haptic (or not) soft button amuses me. Completely the opposite of how it is typically used.

Should be more worried about the screen showing Witcher 3 what's a roll play game.Nothing like battling in made up worlds why trying to drive
The auto gear select will last about 5s before everybody turns it off given how good the car is at assessing whether its raining. A button on the screen though is no great leap of faith, it doesn't need to be a stalk, most cars have a gearstick or a drive select away from the steering column and my Aston Martin had buttons on the dash for Drive, Reverse, Neutral. Its made to sound cool but you know how Tesla like to do that.
Indicators, wipers, autopilot.. why the obsession to put buttons on the steering wheel is lost on me, it will all be down to how well they implement things in practice.
But this is really a poor update overall - outside looks near identical, battery is the same (until Plaid+), they've finally ditched the single larger rear motor and replaced it with 2 smaller ones in the Plaid, the interior is in effect a Model 3 with a binnacle. Again its down to the quality of the execution, if the materials feel premium, the fit tight, the sound deadening improved etc then great, but there's no indication of new underpinnings to improve the ride or handling etc.
But the battery has got to be the biggest let down with no sign of the structural battery pack they were talking about or the bigger cells. The plaid+ is still drawing board stuff given they can't quote any figures. As a showcase, top of the range car, its an 9 year old design with a few cosmetic tweaks.

Maybe it's a LHD thing, but I always had indicators on the left side of the wheel?
As a stalk, sure. A stalk that you lift up for right and press down for left. That design language is ubiquitous. For indicators on a steering wheel, a yoke steering wheel that you're not supposed to take your hands off, having each thumb be able to operate an indicator is imperitive imo. I can't see how you can even reach the right turn signal without taking your left hand off the wheel.

Is there actually a 3-motor EV on the market already that you can order? Just wondering. As a 2019 TMS owner, I don't mind that it's a minor update .
I also really like the look of the TMS, but I can understand that's personal preference. I always thought it looked sleek and well balanced.

Why wouldn't you just use your left thumb? It looks like you'd have to actually lift your hand to press the button with your forefinger to indicate right, on the left hand side of the wheel. Beggars belief.
