The Nissan Leaf 40Kwh leasing discussion
Discussion
£250 a month is good for a 40kwh Leaf over that mileage if that's really the entire cost of the lease. Who's it with?
As above though it wont be ideal for 500 mile trips! You really want active battery cooling and ideally a charging rate greater than 50kw for that.
Even the MG ZS would be better than the Leaf for journeys that long.

Thank you. Very good points.
It's through Zenith (company car) and includes insurance/maintenance.
The issue is that other makes with similar boot space (I wanna carry my bike inside) cost a good £100 more. Zoe cost is comparable but probably too small. Zenith has no Kona and eNiro comes to £400.
I really wish Ioniq went back to its initial price (£210). But something tells me they never intended to honour that price. I had initially placed an order for it which they then increased to £250 (and now £270). Thankfully the price change allows me to cancel the order without incurring fees.

So you've entered into a contract at a particular price, which has then been increasedEdited by pj_ph on Sunday 26th April 11:53
Does the Sale of Goods Act not give you any protection here?

Similar case to me through Zenith (MyDrive/MyBundle).It's through Zenith (company car) and includes insurance/maintenance.

Got a quote for Ioniq Premium, 2 yrs, 8k miles. Was ~£220/month net and placed the order. They hadn't yet confirmed/placed the order.
Then as a result of the PiCG changes dropping to £3500 they contacted me to let me know the quote was £235. Still a good deal but I've declined it. Want to see what else there is. There's not much else by way of EVs at the £200-£250 price range on the portal.
Can't keep waiting for the Polestar lease costs to be released, which seems to have been put back. Same with Mustang Mach-E.
What else is there on the horizon?

Do they have the MG?
Unfortunately not. Besides Leaf and Ioniq they only have smaller cars until the tag hits £400. smn159 said:

It's part of the contract that prices may change (and also that I may choose to cancel it). Does the Sale of Goods Act not give you any protection here?

Interesting. We probably get the same prices even. Ioniq price has fluctuated a lot. I had been watching it for months now and at 14k miles it has fluctuated from £250 down to £210 and now up to £270. The grant change is exactly what they quoted and I just said no because a £500 decrease in grant didn't justify a £900 increase over 2 years. Had it been around £300 of increase I'd have been okay with it. Got a quote for Ioniq Premium, 2 yrs, 8k miles. Was ~£220/month net and placed the order. They hadn't yet confirmed/placed the order.

I'll just keep watching how it goes. As things stand I'm in no urgent need of a car. And supposedly our Zenith contract allows us to take a replacement car while our order is in place (though I have yet to question them over the cost of doing this).
Anyone who factory ordered on in Jan / Feb had any updates?
Obviously Sunderland has been shutdown for a long time, and when I asked about 6 weeks ago it had slipped from 1st week of May to last week of July, which must mean September by now?
Wondering whether to cancel and wait for tech to move on a bit before taking the plunge

I'm really struggling to get anything over 100 miles range with my LEAF when I do motorway drives.
I'm averaging 3.2 mile/kWh - not driving it particularly hard or fast, did a 100 mile journey staying under 70mph nearly the whole time but barely made 100 miles.
Should I be talking to Nissan about the range?

Just drop down to 65. It will add a few minutes to your journey but that's it.I'm averaging 3.2 mile/kWh - not driving it particularly hard or fast, did a 100 mile journey staying under 70mph nearly the whole time but barely made 100 miles.

The Leaf is not very efficient at motorway speed unfortunately. The platform needs an update but Nissan are in turmoil at the moment.

This needs updating for battery capacity to work out the best miles per kWh

Model 3 I reckon.
Depends on what you mean by "best".The most efficient car is the Hyundai Ioniq. The Model 3 is only a little behind it. The original Ioniq charges fast, the new one not so much.
So it really comes down to your budget and how much comfort you want. Neither the Ioniq or Model 3 are particularly luxurious or comfortable.
kambites said:
amongst mainstream cars it's the Ioniq then, by a small but significant margin over... a whole load of other things.
Indeed, and the old Ioniq has another advantage: very fast charging. If you want a cheap EV that is capable of long distances and don't care so much about comfort then it's unbeatable really.aestetix1 said:

When I say 'averaging' I mean 3.2 Kwh is what I am getting overall, that's including the town drives and those into London. The Leaf is not very efficient at motorway speed unfortunately. The platform needs an update but Nissan are in turmoil at the moment.
I have to go up and down the M1 at 50mph a lot so I am not even driving over 50 most of the time.
I have seen how quickly the battery goes down driving above 70mph but I was expecting to get at least 105 miles off a full charge.
That's how much I need to get to my parents house without stopping to charge, as I am taking the M1, M25 and M3 most of the way there, I am not really going very fast (max 70) for any period of time.
By the time I got to the A303, I had hardly any range left and had to divert to Solstice Park to the nearest Rapid Charger - I could have risked it and I may have made it with around 2% to go.
I am driving with E-Pedal , using the Pilot Pro on the motorway and driving in 'B' so not sure what else I can do to improve the range.
I did notice the Economy drop to under 3 miles/kWh even when I was plodding along at 40 mph sometimes.
