Thoughts on the Hyundai IONIQ Hatch 5D Electric?
Discussion
We've got one, the original not the newer battery.
Easily one of the most comfortable and relaxing cars I've driven. Adaptive cruise and lane assist stuff makes long trips really easy. It's not fast, not particularly slow, but certainly doesn't have any suggestion of being a performance car. It grips way better than I ever expect it to but you get a bit of roll and it doesn't enjoy being hustled.
120-140 miles in real world range. Heating is good, as is heated seats and wheel. The new one has improved entertainment system which it needs and I believe also adds a mobile app. Android auto is good as is the wireless phone charging.
It rarely does trips that require public charging so the slow charging on the new one wouldn't worry me as 90% of the charging is done at home.
I struggle to believe a Zoe has more space but I've never even sat in a Zoe so can't compare. I've never wanted for more space and have helped 2 people move house with it. The seats are a little low for elderly relatives to get out easily but they are comfy. Certainly doesn't feel like a small car to drive or park.
Only problems we ever had were software based, the timed charging didn't always work for example, but the software update cured it. It did take an enormous effort to get the dealer to understand what the software update was, including a call to Hyundai UK to prove there was a newer version, but that might be my local dealer. Over the air updates has to be the way to go but I'm not sure if the new one does this in the UK.

Is there a new model on the way?
Mine is averaging 4.8 miles per KWh and I don't drive it any differently to any other car (no slipstreaming lorries or any other EV weirdness). I've done a max of 6 on my commute which is mainly 40-50mph A roads with about 20% nsl dual carriageway. It's comfy, easy to drive, efficient and cheap. Perfect for my commute and brisk enough round town in sports mode.
Eta this is the 38KWh version, my range shows 188 on a full battery and it seems pretty accurate as it counts down but I've never run it low.

Ok less than a week in and I’m very impressed, premium SE - it’s hard to think of anything else you need from a day to day car. I’m getting 4.7 miles per kw (we pay 17p, no cheap octopus rate).
It’s certainly not slow off the motorway, it’s speed and size is far more useable than my 6.0 twin turbo predecessor.
Spec wise the easy access, puddle lights, cooled seats, good infotainment and generous storage offsets the crap stereo but it’s good enough I guess.
I’ll be reluctant to give it up once the Toureg arrives.
