Looked quirky but not practical in the slightest unless you live in London and rarely do more than 5 miles from home.
... which describes just about everyone I know in the city hehe
Same with people who commute by train into the city. My last daily driver was used to ferry me 4 miles too and from my local station. Could easily be done with a small EV.

Price released.
From 7695.00 OTR.
Deliveries expected for August.
I’ve been in from the very start but I’m struggling with this. At least a grand too much, IMO.

But if you chrome-wrap it, it does look EXACTLY like a toaster.

So should be right up your alley biggrin

I didn't think the price was bad actually given that's OTR and as such incudes VAT. Type 2/Euro plug thing is an easy mod.

The 28mph thing seems to be easy to overcome as Valeo have on in the states running 50mph top speed and 15KW with some software mods. It's using an IBSG as the traction motor so also possible to easily play with the gearing by machining new pulleys up.

I'll be seeing what I can do with mine when it arrives, likely investigating how easily mod'able the inverter software is and if it's not how to replace it with something a little more configurable. Given it's a 48V system and a simple IBSG the mod potential is pretty huge!

Loads of room in the bay for a motor swap too!

That's too much for what is basically a plastic dalek. I was sort of considering the idea at £6k but that price is nearly 30% more.

My Duster was only £3k more brand new and it's a proper car that does 500 miles to the tank.

Have you seen how much a new Duster is? I was amazed to find that a new Sandero is nearly £14,000

Good point. They have shot up in only a year.

I paid £10.5k for mine. Since then my model has gone up 40%.

Mad! It does mean that after 10,000 miles I could sell mine and make a profit.

Too much for too little.

I’m still not sure, I was expecting around 6 -6.5k, I would have then run it for a year and hopefully got my money back. For me a Twizzy seems like the better option and at least that can break 50mph

At £8k it's hard to see the argument for one of these versus a first generation Nissan Leaf, the latter being a far more practical and usable car.

I'm glad they exist and I'm sure they'll find a market, but for my money I'd be looking elsewhere.

I like the idea of something like this for local running around but 28mph is pushing things a bit far.

Even 40 would be enough to venture comfortably onto bigger urban roads or country lanes. I wonder if anyone converts old 2cvs to electric?

Are we doing the second hand vs new argument again?

You read my post saying "I'd personally prefer a 1st gen Leaf at the announced price of an Ami, but I'm glad the Ami exists and I'm sure there's a market for it" as some kind of attempt to start an argument? It's literally the the opposite of starting an argument if you're explicitly stating that both propositions are valid, and depend on your personal choice.

  1. That's not what you said.
  2. A leaf costs 27k, not 8k.
You said "it's hard to see an argument for one of these". And then you compare it to a car that costs 3 or 4 times as much.
Wait for this to get 10 years old and then compare the prices of those.
