Method B isn't Clipped Direct, that's Method C.
Also, a 54 A rating Method B is for 90° cable (59 A for Method C).

70°C equivalent would be 41 A Method B (47 A Method C).
70° C Twin & Earth Method C, is 47 A.

All for 6.0mm² & without any other correction factors applied.

To address the OP's original point, a 32A CPD complaint with BS EN 60898 and BS EN 61009-1, for overcurrent conditions:

  • Must not operate at or below 1.13 x In (36.16 A)
  • Must operate at 1.45 x In (46.4 A) within 1 hour

From the figures above, for any other installation method or if any de-rating factors are applied to a 6.0mm² 70°C Twin & Earth cable, for a 32A CPD, 10mm² will be required.

The OP's other assertions about starting currents & running hot are simply incorrect. Those things do exist, but not in the context of Fusing Factor in the way he suggests. His posts are misleading & potentially dangerous.

Yep, you're right, I should probably have gone with the PVC insulation numbers rather than deliberately choosing the higher ratings.

OP you seem to have a lot of expertise in this so if you want to investigate a really questionable area around EV charging look at John Ward's YouTube videos on EV charging & earthing. I'm sure there will be plenty there to get your teeth in to.
