Good deals available on Kona Electric

Just a heads up for anyone looking for a relatively cheap non-Tesla electric car with a real world 250+ mile range. Hyundai have a lot of stock of the Kona Electric kicking around the country at the moment so there is no wait, unlike the 6 month wait for the mechanically identical Kia eNiro. There are also some good discounts on the new prices - try Autotrader or CarWow but be careful as a lot of the so-called "discounts" include the £3k govt grant.

I have just ordered the 64kwh Premium SE in Galactic Grey (metallic colours are free) for £348.85/month on a 6 + 35 12k mile contract hire deal for my wife. Works out at £426/month straight-lined over 36 months - it's the same deal for business (less VAT) or personal. Transporter delivery is free and the car should be with me within 2-3 weeks.

I am getting it as a second company car as the potential personal tax savings make it extremely attractive.

We looked at the Kona and liked it a lot, although ultimately we went with the often ignored Ioniq Electric for £215/month 6x35 10K which we thought a bargain!

Interesting. There was a long waiting list for these at the beginning of the year. That price is hardly a bargain, but it's decent enough, especially once you take fuel savings into account over another similarly sized car.

That's a very good deal if it's a 38kwh Ioniq. Where's it from?

ZenAuto. Price seems to have gone up a lot though, since we ordered in Feb. Still waiting though!

That was a cracking deal! At the moment there don't seem to be any particularly good deals on for electric cars that I could find. The cheapest was for a a new 50kwh Renualt Zoe that can be picked up for around £250-300 straight-lined depending on spec, for 12k miles over 24 months. Renault also seem to be discounting them quite heavily for cash. The eNiro still has a 6 month wait.

Agreed. To be honest, I think my wife (the kids and the dog) would have preferred the Kia eNiro for its greater rear seat and boot space, but a) I don't want to waste 6 months 0% BiK waiting for one and b) IMHO the front end looks awful.

The kiss front is a bit naff, but worse than the Hyundai? I wouldn’t say there’s much in it.

In fact, other than the stupidly priced I Pace all the EVs I’ve seen are butt ugly at the front.

Per your comment, I thought there was quite a waiting list for these. So I was surprised to hear an ad on the radio offering them for immediate delivery on a £300 per month contract.
Perhaps a lot of cars were ordered for stock which they were unable to move during lockdown?

My local dealer confirmed 6 month waiting list, so I am not sure who is offering these as I couldn't find any available to lease immediately. £300 would most probably be with 12 months up front for 5k miles, judging by the deals being offered online via brokers.

They really shouldn't be allowed to advertise cars at a headline price of "£x per month" with the initial payment only in the small print. I mean you might as well say you can PCP any can for £0 a month (with 100% deposit).

There are really strict guidelines on advertising any finance offers, FCA are all over dealers, brokers on this and they can and do have their licences removed if there are repeated failures.

Waited just over a week from deal to keys-in-hand.

It’s a rocket ship, in a funny shade of blue/green...

Just to confirm is this for the Kona (of which there is a lot of stock in the UK due to a ship load being delivered just before/during lockdown) or the Niro?

What spec and over what period and how many miles?

I take it they had it in stock? We are having ours delivered tomorrow - 2 weeks for them to get it from Southampton docks to Stoke, 3 days for the PDI and then another 2 weeks as the dealer has been waiting for a slot of one of their transporters to get it from Stoke to Cornwall...

Never mind, still 5 months quicker (I believe) than an eNiro!

According to an american website - The Truth about Cars - Hyundai have announced a recall in Korea for cars built since 2017 to address battery fires.
Owners might want to check into it.

Hyundai will voluntarily recall Kona full-electric vehicles because a possible short circuit due to faulty manufacturing of its high-voltage battery cells could pose a fire risk. The recall involves 25,564 Kona EVs built between September 2017 and March 2020, South Korea's transport ministry said on Thursday.
