Price quoted was £29,990 for the base 204 PS 58kWh “Life”.
I wonder if that was a guaranteed price or an estimate which is subject to revision? I wonder if the dealer actually know what VAG's RRP will be or are just guessing to try to get some pre-orders in?
It sounds like Cambridge are clued up on the ID.3 (unlike other VW dealers people had been to) and the chap I quoted is confident in the price, but who knows what's in the smallprint of their order!

Curious that it (the MG not the ID3) seems to lack adaptive cruise control.

Anyone else think it looks an awful lot like someone described a Passat down the phone?

Does look decent though, as noted I can imagine taxi drivers being all over it.

Oh and some of us under 30s are indeed aware of MG!

Like the ZS, it seems to lack any sort of individuality to its styling at all; I can see elements of just about everything in it. That does mean it's largely inoffensive, at least.

I might be in the market for an EV estate, but it definitely won't be one of these.
Hopefully once everyone's done launching their SUVs they'll get cracking with the cars. I guess the ID.5 will be the first EV available in estate form from a more traditional marque, which I'm sure will be both nicer and pricier than this.

When I saw the Skoda Enyaq I thought it was an estate (not an SUV) - but I guess SUV’s sell.

Unless I am missing something the ID.5 is the only other EV estate definitely announced. I expect more will follow though. Obviously there should be Skoda/Seat/Audi versions of the ID.5 if nothing else

if it does depreciate like a stone - leases will be unfairly expensive, which will leave this on the shelf for a good chunk of it's target market.

Polestar are basically Volvo - so you'd hope that they would make one eventually! But yeah so far ID.5 is the only one I've seen confirmed.

EVs are really not depreciating badly. Just have a search on autotrader for Vauxhall Amperas. They have held their value incredibly well and they're essentially a plug-in hybrid, although it's a proper EV with range extender rather than an ICE car with a battery system grafted on.

In 2017 I bought a 2015 Nissan Leaf 24kwh for £10k. I just traded it in for £7k. I could have sold it privately for up to £9k, but you know, hassle. EVs won't start depreciating like ordinary cars until such time as they are the more common vehicle type on the road. At the moment demand is holding up second hand values because of a fairly limited supply. The MG ZS EV (and this new MG5 no doubt) will be seen on the second hand market as an EV before it's seen as an MG. Drivetrain is more important than badge at the moment.

Currently I run a 2017 30kwh Nissan Leaf, and a 2016 Honda Civic Tourer, 1.8 petrol. In a bit under 3 years time I'll be at the end of a PCP on the Civic, and I'll hopefully be able to trade it in for a second hand MG5 - and that will be able to perform all my motoring needs in terms of size and range, where at the moment my Leaf being of limited size and range doesn't. I may even be able to run just one car then for my family needs.

Essentially the MG5 EV is the car I've been waiting for, for years. I won't be seen dead in an SUV.

I'm a bit disappointed on the outside, it looks a bit bland. I expected a bit more modern styling/chintz somehow like the others in the range have got. I can see it being a decent, cheap family vehicle though. £25 grand for brand new with reasonable space, a warranty and being all electric? Sounds pretty good to me. I hope it sells well.

What's the nearest ICE equivalent? A well specced Fiat Tipo estate? That'd list near 20k?

Any of the more budget orientated C-segment estates I guess. They all seem to start around £20k in petrol form.

Mind you, you can buy a Dacia Logan MCV for £11k if you want to go really cheap.

That's pretty darn cheap motoring there.

No kidding. I spent those three years charging it at work at no cost as well. Nearest thing to free motoring I can imagine. No repairs, no servicing, no VED. It did 25k miles in those three years. Now I'm crying because I've got to charge it at home (WFH) now, but then I don't have a commute any more. It costs about £3 to charge to full from empty at home, and that'll get me about 130 miles of range.

Having EVs since 2011 has been a wild journey. Sometimes selling them for more than I paid, and when you figure in near zero running costs it's like a little secret I can't believe more people are not exploiting it!

It seems to me like it was designed in vacuum relative to the rest of the range. I quite like the MG "frontage" they've got on ZS and the 3, but this looks like it's come from a different manufacturer.

It has. It’s a rebadged Roewe ei5, part of the same SAIC group, but as you say not a consistent design with the other MGs.

James and Kate EV review:

Honestly not too shabby actually. The MG man confirms its 460L boot to the roller cover and another 100 or so to the ceiling, so that is better.

Seems like it drive alright as well and the range claims don't seem optimistic. James said someone had managed to exceed the NEDC range on a test drive with 3% still left.

And I though it looked familiar! Its a Roewe (the front is similar to the car from TGs Chinese car review). EDIT: Beaten to it by the post above!
