Or, as there are lips, designed to hold a small shelf? (If it's just one of a set)

My suggestion was going to be much more childish and crude

You know those frozen sausages, well you have found a tool to get them under the ground without a hammer. Two at a time.

It's a victorian Orgasmo-gizmo.

Smut aside, how big is it? I've seen similar, used to spark up gas lighting. Crank a handle and a spark is created between the 2 brass balls, lighting a stream of gas for a street light. Guessing around 50mm?

Or it's an Edwardian electro-ejaculator.

Give it a sniff, OP. If it smells vaguely of gas..... it could be either.

nono In regular usage, it should smell of beluga caviar steeped in Absinthe, but judging by the photographs, it has hasn't been properly used for quite some time, although the patina would suggest it has had some quite vigorous use in the past.
But it looks as though it has plenty of life left in it, and I would be quite happy to take possession, as it were.
What do you say, OP?!
