Evening All

I've been told today that the E-Tron I ordered weeks ago, for delivery in early April, MAY only be starting to get built end of June due to a shortage of processor chips that these cars and others need.

Im now looking at alternatives, but there's not much out there I like. I'd love a Range Rover P300E, but I think the BIK tax is quite a lot.

I think the Jag I-Pace is ugly as sin, and Im not a lover of the Merc EQC...............so what else?

I'm leasing this through my company, the E-Tron was ideal as Zero BIK tax, along with all EVs

Have you driven the EQC? I prefer it to my e-tron from the 2 hour test drive I had. Not much in it mind!

Literally everything is more efficient than the Turd so you can't really go wrong by switching. Or alternatively you could get a short term lease, there are companies that do one month rolling contracts on EVs. Then you can try one out for an extended period while you wait.

The Etron is a great car, super refined and plenty of range for most.
It’s worth waiting for if it’s what you are after.

Have run an Etron for around 15 months now, without any issue (aside from my own stupidity of trying to get somewhere out of range).

I think its a great car. 200 miles in summer on a charge, 160 at worst in winter. Sits the 3 kids (13, 11 & 7 years old) in great comfort in the back, and enough space for family jaunts down to France.

My lease it due to expire in November and I too have found myself looking for a replacement. The options generally seem to be EQC (but I do not like Mercedes interiors), Taycan or the forthcoming Audi GT (which funnily enough I recieved an email about today about the schedule unveiling). the latter 2 are likely to be around £1k per month from business lease (if not more), whereas I pay under £500/month for the 55 Etron. My decision was made last week when the wife accounced she wanted to change her car. I'm extending the lease on the Etron and have put an order down on a 992 Carrera 4 GTS Targa.

I'd say go with the Etron, don't listen to all the idiots on here saying how bad they are, most of which have never owned one and drive around in Kia's.

There was an article in this weeks Autocar regarding the chip shortages and why it's happened.

Here's another one from the FT

https://www.ft.com/content/8cb74f6a-3859-4b13-885e...

Just be careful you don't order something different only for that to be delayed too.

This.
There is definitely an inverse snobbery in the EV world.
I didn’t consider an EV until the “premium” manufacturers started producing them. I had been keen to try electric for a few years, but had no desire to downgrade in terms of interior comfort and quality.

For me personally, when a car can get me 180 miles on a single charge, in the winter, and over 200 in the summer, it’s all I need.
I dare say, it’s all that 99% of people will ever need.

The Turd is not for you then, the eTron can only get about 150-160 in the winter. It has class leading inefficiency, the worst drivetrain of any EV on the market by a considerable margin.

That may be a warning sign, if they couldn't make a decent drivetrain how will it hold up over time? Maybe not a concern if you only keep it for a few years.

The E tron was the no 1 selling car in Norway in 2020, and no 1 again in January 21.

Don’t get an e-Tron, they’re really bad (though I haven’t actually owned one). Save some money and get a Kia instead.

Sums up 90% of people who post on EVs

They vent an opinion with nothing to substantiate it other than something they read by someone else, neither of whom have ever owned one, driven one or probably never even seen one, but like to comment.

Go on the speakev audi sub forum or any other dedicated Audi forum and get real owners thoughts. You don't become the best selling car in a country like Norway who know their stuff on EVs better than any western country with a product that is as bad as some make out. Is it perfect.. I doubt it, but what is.

As an example, to comment on efficiency is a bit of a joke, how many Audi buyers are told to say not buy, say, an RS6 because the fuel efficiency is worse than a BMW M5? Does it matter if the range gives you what you want?

As for delivery times - there's nearly new cars around so unless you really want new there are choices. Same for the i-pace which owners do rave about quite a lot.

Maybe you missed that bit of the thread.

I don’t own nor really advocate a Kia - though their headline warranty offer sounds good.

Really happy with my E-Tron, and it's the most basic specification with the smallest battery. It's good for 150+ miles in typical wet and cold conditions. Comfortable and practical. The boot could do with being a bit deeper, and the app was unreliable when I first got it, but otherwise it's been brilliant.

Avoid the sunroof (known leak problems) and the virtual mirrors (reliability issues and expensive if damaged).

Sigh...
I own a 55, and my range has been 180 all winter.
Also, as much as you want your clever franglais catchphrase to stick, it isn’t.

Out of interest which EV do you own?

Probably a Kia smile

To be honest I had one of the first Etrons and my range this year at the coldest dropped to around 165 miles. Normally north of 200. The newer cars have more range, maybe another 10/15 miles so your figures seem about right.

I spoke to a lease broker the other day as my current lease is up for renewal in the summer, they were confident that it was a 4-6 month lead time. I’ll call back on Monday and see if they’ve changed their mind!

I’m undecided between an E-Tron (either SUV or sportback depending on if I can get one under my arbitrary budget of £650 + VAT per month) or an EQC. If the lead time is poor on the E Tron it will force my hand with an EQC.

I don't know what the pricing is like now, but mine is £475 including VAT on a 3+23, with 10k miles per year. I know leasing isn't as cheap as it was a couple of years ago. What I'm paying now was the absolute limit of what I considered reasonable for a car lease.
